Yes, absolutely. They all seem very genuine, and kind. I see all of their perspectives, and think they are all right, for different reasons. I kind of side with the bassist, most of all. She was being the most authentically supportive of the band, and their long term success. She has some integrity and the courage of her convictions.

Thank you VH1…. For giving this band another shot….and showing the world what the 80’s rock scene was all about.
@fowchiiiliedpuppiesdied Жыл бұрын
No, this wasn’t really the 80s rock scene, it was the corporate hellhole the music industry became, because far too many artists sold out for money, rather than being true to their principles. The bands that were true to their principles in the 80s like Throwing Muses, The Replacements, the Pixies (sadly now, the pixies shill for the man), broke the corporate nightmare up, into a million pieces in 1991-92. Good people, who allow self doubt and morons in suits, to sway them, from their intuition only extend the misery for those who have the courage of their convictions, and the bands who follow them.

I was very lucky. Right after this show, they went on a tour in Europe with Zakk Wylde and others. When they came back, they wanted to do some small shows to get polished. I had a music venue in Wichita, Ks-I booked them. It was not the exact same lineup. My band Ten Day Wish opened for them. And I was their sound mixer for the night. I asked them to run down one song-it was Edge of a Broken Heart. They stopped, I asked them if everything on stage was good-it was. They asked their road manager, and he aid "this guy's way better than everyone on the European tour". Jan passed away a couple of years after that. I was so fortunate to have worked with her!

I was lucky enough to see these ladies on tour opening for White Lion in Davenport Iowa when I was only 16 years old. This was my first concert and I have to say, the most memorable one. I was a young aspiring guitarist who couldn't wait to see Vito Bratta play live. When Vixen took the stage, I was blown away by their live performance. But above and beyond the excellence of both White Lion and Vixen that I was lucky enough to witness that evening, I left the venue with an everlasting admiration Jan's playing. And of course, being within the confines of my 16 yr. old hormone imprisonment, she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my life. I was in the front row just below Jan's spot on the stage, and spent the entire duration of Vixen's set standing in a puddle of my own drool, LOL! I started that day excited to see Vito play, and it ended by me not being able to stop thinking about this ultra beautiful and talented female guitarist I was now in love with, lol. Thru the years I find myself always popping in a Vixen CD to get my fix for the Sexiest Metal ever made. All of them amazing performers and amazing musicians, how that 1st album didn't hit platinum 5 times over is beyond me. In the Service I visited many countries and people all over the world wore their T-Shirts and played that album, I'm thinking the record companies lied to them to greedily keep that money. Love these Ladies of Mayhem, Vixen was the absolute in their day. Jan you will forever be missed by legions of fans who were all fortunate and privileged enough to hear the music You, Janet, Share & Roxy wrote. Rest in Piece Beautiful Angel of Metal!

I am always amazed how some of these people lives ended up. You would think with all the fame and fortune, these girls would never have to work again. Yet they all lead a lifestyle just like any other person with many working average paying jobs. I am sure that this gives many of us comfort who had dreams of becoming a actor, musician, etc but it never happened for us. We ended up with boring jobs, boring lives, and hardly enough money to pay the bills. Yet as I continue to watch these videos it seems that what really matters in life is how you treat people. Because in the end it don't matter how much money or fame you had. Everyone that knows you will judge you by how you treated them. To have people say that you were a good person rich or poor is probably the best gift you will ever receive.

I really enjoyed it. It was a pleasant nostalgic trip down to late 80s. I recall watching their music videos in awe. They rocked just as hard as the male bands. RIP Jan, you were my fav.

Jan and Lita are the Royals of unique and talented Female metal band guitarists, and both are two of the most talented and amazing guitarists of all time! Jan is so brilliant,amazing,gorgeous and important to Vixen and i absolutely adore her to this day! Was jan warming up to Uncle Toms Cabin when Janet walked in? They all look and sound magnificent! Absolutely spectacular!

I saw them just before they got signed at a battle of the bands in Aurora. Talk about bring dynamite to a pillow fight! They blew every other band away, actually Obliterated them! I went back with a few other and Vixen for a few drinks and just could Not get Roxy out of my head ever since. There were 2 other bands that had some minor success, I can't remember them right now. These ladies were/are so approachable and so warm. It's so sad that Jam passed but we will always have the music to remember her by, and those nights of laughter.

I don't know why a band would think a different guitar player would make a difference in record sales. Personally I think Jan was the perfect guitarist for the band. But if they wanted to make a difference in album sales, a new guitarist wasn't going to do it. They should've hired outside hit song writers to help them, and a hit record producer. Those two things would've helped record sales. Their biggest his song was "Edge of a Broken Heart", which was written by Richard Marx. A lot of it also depends on how hard the record company pushed the record. Back in the 80's, you were very reliant on the record company for the success or failure of your band.

I think maybe they just wanted a dual guitar sound, ala an Iron Maiden or Judas Priest, rather than pushing Jan out.

Seen Vixen July 1989 with White Lion and Ozzy at the legendary Castle Farms Charlevoix Michigan. It was a great show. Great venue. Great place to call my home concert venue of my youth. I joined the Navy 4 days after this show. My last one at that great venue.

I remember seeing them as opening band for Ozzy and thinking well shit this is the rare glam rock band who can actually play onstage. They sounded better than White Lion that night . Being 16 years old at the time I was not unimpressed with their look either. Definitely more pleasant to look at than Ozzy Osbourne or Geezer Butler lol

Vixen was as good as any of the guy-metal bands of the time, and better at live reproduction of their songs than most imho, but Jan was the heart and soul of that band. What a cool woman, great performer, and kick-ass guitarist! Miss you Jan, rest peacefully.

Whatever you are drinking / smoking / consuming, I think it’s had an effect on your critical thinking chip. Vixen were ok, just ok. During the 80s and early 90s the genre had the biggest hitters in it, it also had talent that out wrote, out played and out sold Vixen many times over. There’s a good reason for that, they just weren’t THAT good, they weren’t awful but don’t oversell them eh?

Jan is one of my favorite guitarists and I didn't even know about her till a few days ago. She can shred like no other. It was great that VH1 got them back together. It was like therapy and closure for Jan before she passed. I know that the others would have felt horrible leaving it the way they did.

When I saw this program for the first time about 14 years ago, I had no idea who Vixen was. It was until years later in a live video with the classic training that I realized that it was an out of the ordinary band until it became my favorite Female Hard Rock band of all time. For the above, I gave myself the task of investigating a little more about the group, especially its founder: Jan Kuehnemund. What I found was one of the most fascinating, surprising and mysterious Rock stories I could have imagined. Jan's life is full of mysteries beginning with his age and date of birth. Although in the biography says he was born in 1961 and died in October 2013 at the age of 51, however there is information from the official obituary that states that he was actually born in November 1953. That's not all. The official biography mentions the founding of Vixen between 1981 and 1983 along with Janet Gardner, however I have found more data that indicate that Vixen already existed in the 70's and that the band was founded by Jan at the beginning of the 70`s, which would be logical to have an approximate age of 20 in 1973. This information does not match the official information. which indicates that she would have founded it at 10 years old. According to the information I found, this band was founded by Jan with guitarist Nancy Palumbo, hiring Laurie Hedlund on drums, Cindy Boettcher on keyboards (yes, Vixen had keyboardist!) And Gale DeMatoff on bass. This was the original band that Jan started playing with, starting in clubs and bars. It is a mystery that band, we are talking about a band before which is considered a pioneer in the genre, the famous The Runaways. Even more, the level reached by this band was higher opening concerts for artists such as Reo Speedwagon, Ted Nugent, Bob Seeger and the Rock Progressive Band Styx, something that Runaways never managed to do. This band disappeared as well as all or almost all the information related to its existence when the band moved to Los Angeles in 1979. The rest of the story is much better known. At that time, Jan would be around 30 years old, in a highly misogynous environment and where there is no place for adults, that may have been the reason for hiding his true age as well as erasing the memories of his previous band. To corroborate the above we would be talking about the first true all-female Rock band (and not The Runaways). I have not found any musical material from the Vixen of the 70's but if I have found evidence that the group recorded original material, hopefully and is rescued and made known that material and contribute to give it the place it deserves in the story to which it my is the female rock guitarist the biggest: Janice Lee Kuehnemund, a woman who never abandoned her dreams. Today her three amazing surviving bandmates Roxy, Janet and Share maintain the dream of being the best female Rock band of all times. I just learned sadly that Janet Gardner left the band definitively since January 16 of this year taking her place the former Femme Fatale Lorraine Lewis. Thanks Janet, the time you were at Vixen was enough for many of us to know you were the best. Share and Roxy will keep the Legend alive as far as you can go as we will never stop applauding you.
