@kklicky55 Day 1: Owner puts up fence with latch. Vizsla learns to open latch. Day 2: Owner reinforces latch with padlock. Vizsla uses picnic table to vault over fence. Day 3: Owner raises fence. Vizsla climbs tree and jumps fence again. Day 4: Owner puts shock fence up. Vizsla tears through shock fence at 43 mph. Day 5: Owner realizes all the dog wants is to hang out with him, and never has a problem again.

06cdvanw .... correct ;) Our vizsla climbed the 1m fence when she was 7week old ... in two minutes she was out... we realized you cant put the vizsla behind fence !

@velcrodogowner Depends on the circumstances. In the wild, the weakest smallest pup(s), would be pushed aside and die. A responsible breeder would weigh the pups regularly to make sure each is getting enough to eat. He can either make sure the smallest pup gets to a nipple or hand feed the pup.

@MrSnakefreak500 The initial adoption fee is only a *small* part of the financial obligation of responsible dog ownership. Plan to spend several hundred dollars more on monthly heartworm medication, flea and tick preventative, puppy class(es) for socialization, premium dog food, dog supplies (crate, toys, etc.). All of this adds up, not to mention the initial veterinary visits, microchip and shot schedules (approx $250+).

All those puppies are from the same litter?? And survived?? Fantastic!!! Oh, Mrsnakefreak500, on O'ahu, having a dog "chipped" is only 5 bucks. Also, I take my dog to the spa, she gets nails trimmed, teeth cleaned, Massaged, and bathed for only 36 bucks. Just remember, your pet is part of the family. =Stefan=

Great dogs, I've not got one myself, but I see one often. Only funny thing about it, is it likes to put my hand in it's mouth. It's like oh human you must be tired standing there, let me take some weight of you, give me your wrist, and hand it's very soft no biting at all, or pressure. But its' still weird, I should tell it off more than I do, but it's hard to be stern with it as it's so sweet.

Well they are gun dogs, so I guess it's her way of retriving you and making you stay, or giving you a hand shake :)

Vizlsas are not for everyone, some questions to ask: Vizslas are high-energy dogs, are you a high-energy family? Vizslas are strong and enthusiastic, are you strong and patient? Vizslas are needy, stubborn and sensitive; are you tolerant, positive and consistent? Vizslas are thinkers; can you out-think them?

I couldn't agree more. Every-time someone adopts a puppy from an "irresponsible breeder" they are killing a shelter dog. What’s an "irresponsible breeder"? Any breeder that does not breed as a caretaker and devotee of her particular breed, as shown by showing/trialing/titling (i.e. dogs need a reason for existing/a measure of quality other than “because they’re cute”), health testing, and being involved in the dog community. Avoid irresponsible breeders, or adopt shelter dogs.

I know of NO reputable breeder that will sell two puppies to one home. Vizslas mature LATE (puppy-like until age 3) and spacing them out 18 months (3-5 years) apart is recommended to properly socialize/train a puppy. Not to mention it prevents the inevitable problems/challenges when they enter adolescence.

Vizslas are not a good dog for the first time dog owner. How much time in person have you spent around adult Vizslas? I would recommend you seek out your local Vizsla Club and contact breeders in person to meet some Vizslas. A list of Clubs can be found on the Vizsla Club of America website vca web dot org
