Just a bit of trivia about the choice of villains for this movie that brought the Avengers together: In the very first issue of the Avengers in 1963 it was a plan by Loki that brought them together. In 2002, the "Ultimates" Universe (Earth 1610) version of The Avengers were brought together by SHIELD to stop a Chitauri invasion. So basically this movie combined both comic origins for the team into one big event and paid homage to both.

Um actually, sorry to be that guy, but the Ultimates were brought together after Magneto attacked Washington DC. SHIELD and the US Government wanted a team of superhumans to fight future Magnetos. But since Magnetos don't come along everyday, it was part of the story that the Ultimates were basically sitting around doing nothing for a while. Until Bruce Banner, a member of the team, secretly injected himself with some new Hulk serum and went on a rampage through Manhattan. The Ultimates didn't fight the Chitauri until their second major storyline...though that is where the Chitauri first appeared.

Even though a certain relationship in Age of Ultron was a bit... out of nowhere (I doubt Vicky is reading all of these, but trying not to spoil it anyway), I think Joss Whedon is the one that wrote the Hulk the best. I think he's the one that made Banner's resentment and fear of the Hulk the most compelling, without skimping on the Hulk smashing we all want to see. I don't dislike Hulk in Endgame like some people, but I do wish the path to that point wasn't as rushed as it was. He really deserved some solo movies, too bad about the whole Universal thing.

This is also my favorite portrayal of Banner by far. He gets weirdly silly later on, but here everything about Mark Ruffalo's acting is on point. He takes the weight and cost of having this indestructible monster inside of him so seriously. It makes sense he would move on from that as he learns to accept himself but he's never quite as compelling to me as he is here.

The craziest thing about this movie to me is that this was the first MCU movie I watched. I hadn't grown up on comics, my main exposure to superheroes had been the DCAU, the last superhero movie I'd seen was the first X-Men movie, which I thought was so bad I wrote off the entire genre. I saw Avengers in theaters solely on a friend's rabid endorsement. And not only did I have a great time, but without having seen ANY of the preceding movies or having any other preexisting familiarity with any of the characters, I understood who everyone was, what they were doing, and why they were doing it. That's just excellent film making.
@smiddlehurst1

Honestly I think that's one of the most impressive things about the MCU as a whole. For the most part you can watch pretty much any film as your starting point and it'll make sense as its own thing. Sure you'll get more out of them if you know the bits that slot together around it but it's not required. Hell I know someone who, for some reason, started with *Endgame* and they followed along just fine and enjoyed the hell out of it.

Captain's shield is made of Vibranium, mentioned in the first movie rather quickly before Peggie plugs rounds into it _important quality to keep in mind_ : it is able to absorb or disperse both vibrational and kinetic energy - it enables Cap to do some crazy things like not feel much impact going into the shield - Thor's hammer hitting it basically dispersed all the energy into the surrounding trees while Cap's arm was A-OK

This movie is so iconic, a timeless classic that will go down in cinematic history. Wait till you see the rest of the movies and where they take the story. It's an absolutely epic ride of explosive fun, thrilling excitement and heartwrenching emotion. You'll be surprised by how deep these movies go, how well they are thought out and how attached you become once you get into the universe, take it all in and absorb the MCU as an organic, ongoing story. One thing that is great to watch with Iron Man, is that each new suit is a direct response to something that Tony failed on before. When Thor hits him with the lighting and it charges the suit to 400% capacity, it is because Whiplash in Iron Man 2 had electrical attacks that caused the suit to short out, so he adapted. And the one thing that EVERY suit does, is increase how quickly he can put it on, because Tonys first ever failure as Iron Man, was not being fast enough to save Yinsen in the caves. If that suit didnt take so long to power up, Yinsen would never had had to buy him time, and might just have survived. That guilt is the underlying drive for every improvement he ever makes to that armour, so that he never has to fail again. It is cool to see if you can work out what each upgrade in in response to though.

I will say that you are correct in saying that a submarine would have been safer than an aircraft carrier. I was a sonar technician on board a submarine. We did battle with aircraft carriers and always won. And let me tell you, hearing a jet take off from an aircraft carrier from underwater is quite the experience. Also, they would always be pinging us with their sonar, but they never found us. Submarines don't use active sonar. That would give away our location. We use what we call passive sonar. We listen to the water in all directions. We know where everything is, how far away it is, how fast it's going, what kind of vessel it is, and in what direction it is headed. All that we can ascertain just by listening. We are the silent service.

The MCU hav, what the DCU is missing. This emotion of brave surprising and totaly exitement. The colorful personality of each character. And the glowing spark of warm humor. MARVEL did everything right with its vision. From the selection of the script, the directors to the actors, it will take a long time for DC to understand how this is done. ... There are a lot of things in the battle of New York you will soon learn about. They are in movies and shows such as: 1) Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013): How the battle and The Avengers strengthened S.H.I.E.L.D., the United Nations, and such. 2) Marvel Studios Avengers: Endgame (2019): During a “Tim Heist”, we see The Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents (Actually HYDRA.) take Loki away, but an incident happens. 3) Marvel Studios Hawkeye (2021) as a girl, Kate Bishop (The second Hawkeye.) was rescued by the original Hawkeye (Clint Barton) for a Chitauri alien. 4) Marvel Studios Loki (2021): See Endgame 5) Marvel Studios Captain America: Civil War (2016): Thad Ross and The Avengers watch past videos of their previous battles, and soon learn THEY TO cause massive destruction, which left a choice that affected the fate of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. 6) Marvel Studios Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) 4 years ago in 2012, Adrian Toomes and his salvation workers were cleaning up the battle, when Tony Stark replaced them with the group “Damage Control”. They fix, clean up,and rebuild buildings The Avengers and the Chitauri aliens destroyed in battle. Toomes and his men can’t go out of business, so they took the alien tech for themselves and sold it on the illegal black market. With the tech, Toomes created a special wing suit and called himself “The Vulture”. He and Herman Shultz, who modified a gauntlet that can discharge electricity to become a small, yet EXTREMELY POWERFUL shockwave originally used by used by Brock Rumlow, who called himself “Crossbones”, A nemesis of Captain America and his new group of Avengers. That feeling is why a lot of people prefer MCU movies over most DCEU movies. DC had some good ones. Aquaman and Shazam come to mind, but the problem is Marvel doesn't slow down. What you have seen is phase 1. Phase 2 is better. Phase 3 is better than that. What we have seen of phase 4 it is just as good as phase 3. The latest Spider-Man is the best earning Spider-Man film, and the best earning Sony film ever. DC has, and will, put out more great movies, but they just can't compare to the cultural phenomena of Marvel.

It's my favorite MCU movie hands down. Really fantastic film and it's not surprising that a Browncoat like you would like it when Joss Whedon takes the reigns. He actually crafted the meta-story from Avengers on through to Endgame that the rest of the films follow, although he only wrote and directed a couple of films in the MCU and some stuff ended up being changed when the films all were actually shot. Too bad he seems to be a jerk to work with, hopefully he can find a way to redeem himself cause damn he can make an epic movie/TV show.
