The reason Aang can always stay positive is because he's essentially a buddhist monk. He can accept the world as is and he can accept when he doesn't have the power to change things. Also, a bit of not-in-the-show trivia: his arrow tattoos symbolize his status as a master airbender at only 12 years old. The kid is a once-in-a-generation genius when it comes to his birth element.

One of the things that make this show so great is that it doesn't talk down to its audience, even though that audience is meant to be children. All the characters have more depth to them than it seems at first glance, and the writers are not afraid of addressing some very heavy topics. Some of the humour may be a little childish at times, but it's a children's show! They also had a plan for the entire story, beginning to end, before they started work on the first episode. They didn't follow that plan exactly, but having it meant they could keep the whole thing very coherent thematically and have the characters grow and evolve in a very believable way. There's a lot of shows written for adults that could learn a few things from how this show was made. The Netflix live action version of Avatar, for a start!

20:23 each element is dangerous in its own right. Fire: for obvious reasons Earth: again pretty obvious Water: there would be more then just mild discomfort. Imagine being at a beach and you get hit by a decently big wave and it knocks you off your feet, now have someone control that water into a more focused/dense flow, would be like getting hit by a truck or make it thin enough with far greater pressure behind it and now your chopping off limbs. Air: same principle as water. Controlling the pressure of the air you can make a raging tornado or a thin limb chopping blast. Not to mention pulling the air right out of someone’s lungs
@endlessnoodle30563 күн бұрын
To be fair, early episodes haven't really found the tone of the series yet, so it's easy to assume most elements are soft like that. It's not until much later, especially book 3, when you learn to be absolutely terrified by waterbenders

I don’t know if you're a fan of Harry Potter, but Jason Isaacs voiced Zhao, who played Lucius Malfoy. Also, this episode shows that even though he’s banished, Zuko has more honor than anyone in the fire nation because Zhao attacked after yielding, a dishonorable thing. Zuko also, in the last episode, Zuko also kept his word when he agreed to leave the Southern Water Tribe alone. And Momo means peaches in Japanese, so Momo is literally named Peaches because he was eating a peach at the end of this episode. And Momo was initially going to be a reincarnated Gyatso but they eventually dropped that idea.

Aang: You should try it sometime. The next time Aang is seen, he slides in on a penguin and trips Zuko. LITERALLY FIGHTING HIM WITH FUN! You mentioned how silly Zuko got defeated, well.... I watched this show when it was first coming out and still have the complete series on DVD. Welcome to the fandom. This series is amongst the best in television history and the closest Western animation can get to Anime. •So Aang is biologically 12 (chronologically 112), Katara is 14, Sokka, is 15, and Zuko is 16. •Airbenders can warm their bodies with breathing techniques, allowing them to be in colder climates without winter clothing. •In Sokka's defense, with the men of the tribe away at war, the responsibility of defending the rest of the village falls on him, a 15-year-old boy trying to fill a man's shoes without someone to teach him what it means to be both leader and man. •Cultural Inspirations: Air Nomads - Tibetan Buddhists Water Tribes - Inuits and Asiatic Peoples of the Russian Far East Earth Kingdom - Asia, but mostly Ming and Qing Dynasty China Fire Nation - Imperial Japan •Each bending style is drawn by different martial arts Airbending - Baguazhang or Circle Walking, known for constant circular movement, evading all attackers and getting around them. Waterbending - Tai Chi, soft and breath that can build up and be harder than aggression. Earthbending - Hung Gar, known for strong stances and rooting to the ground. Think of Tiger or Crane styles of Kung Fu. Firebending - Northern Shaolin, strong and dynamic style using powerful hand and leg movements, good at long range, wide stances, quick advances and retreats, kicking and leaping, rolling circular blocks, quickness, agility, and aggressive attacks. •I think they're using Commander to mean Commodore, as Commander is under Captain. That being said, both live action attempts failed to capture how menacing Zhao is. Course, it helps that Jason Isaacs is voicing Zhao. •As with many franchises, there is an official Avatar cookbook.
@alwayswrite20113 күн бұрын
A lot of work was put into this series. A small example is that each of the bending techniques is based on a real martial arts form. That aside, I have one very important question for you, Vicky: Are you REALLY a GT Racing Ace? 🤔

Undoubtable, this is the best cartoon ever. The first season is about setting the stage, world building and character development. It take sit's time. The first 8-10 episodes are very loosely related. With the episode The Storm the series gets darker and much more focused. People ask why are subsequent season so good. Simple. By then you know the characters very well. You have seen them up and seen them down. There are four elements: Earth, Fire, Water, and Air. A few individuals can connect and manipulate one element. The Avatar can manipulate all elements. There is much more, but no spoilers. Each type of bending is activated by a set of real martial arts. Katara is not even a novice. She has great power but no training. She's not even seen any bending at all. So, she is completely self taught. Imagine putting together a 1000 piece puzzle where all the pieces are the same color. Also, If you put the wrong piece in the wrong place it blows up in your face. To Aang a few hours have past-not one hundred years.. He has lost everything except Appa. He's a 12 yo kid with untold power.
