I had the opportunity to experience the Russian school late in my life, but I recognize in these pianists what I learned fundamentally. The training of the memory of the score from the beginning of learning, the comfort of the technique a difficult point of balance, in an admirable pedagogy, between demand and enjoyment. I am especially happy that my daughter also had access to this wonderful school. It was one of the extremely positive things for the improvement of music teaching in my country, Portugal, where so many Russians were teaching music during the first years of the new millennium. An improvement in pedagogy that shows its results, but above all, very people devout and well formed, a true love for the high values of culture.Eduardo Lourenço a Portuguese essayist spoke in one of his essays on the Russian soul....and I say that it is a beautiful thing even if only earthly!💜💙♥️🇵🇹

I think the Russian culture has superior DNA for the piano, most of the greatest pianists are Russian. What a gift to be able to play music of this caliber and be so young only to get better and better as the years go by with the kind of practice and dedication. As we all know many of the greats have been either Russian, Ukraine or Georgian Republic, Horowitz, Gilels, Richter, Sokolov, Ashkenazy, the young Trifonov, Kern, the list goes on and on. Elisei Misin and Alexander Malofeev, is now 19, are prodigies of the first order and now Vladimir Krainev here, Beethoven is tough for very young pianists but this little pianist is managing to play well, despite being so young.

@@rka8215 I think we would need to research this. You can find some information on this in a particular journal article written by: Mosing, M. A., Pedersen, N. L., Madison, G., & Ullén, F. (2014). Genetic pleiotropy explains associations between musical auditory discrimination and intelligence. PLoS ONE, 9(11). doi-org.lopes.idm.oclc.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0113874; there are other articles that suggest that there is a genetic component and another journal article is: Genes Affect Music Ability: Study. (2014, March 12). Stock Watch. There seems to be some suggestions that genetics does play a part as is suggested by twin studies. You have to look at the research. I don't know off hand, I would have to research this at length. I was a former classical music agent in NYC and I am now a psychologist who studies the workplace. To be able to play in performance is about just doing the practice with refinement and getting better and better over the years with the adroitness and dexterity and musical sensitivity required to make sure the memory is iron clad for every performance, time and again. There are no short cuts, genetics might not necessarily make someone practice more, it is likely also intrinsic motivation and conscientiousness that will also make great pianists as well. These hypothesis could also be tested empirically and studied psychologically. Thank you for your response.

@Val O'Brien Shallow? There's not a shallow moment - there are _weak_ moments, certainly, places where technique or interpretation have room to grow, but nothing "shallow." Your suggestion that Sher is "simply copying" is a preconceived assertion, as is the idea that [his] "emotions are not yet properly developed as of yet." "Properly developed emotions!" What a concept! I'd like to know who has them.

The Russian "school" is easily detectible. The hand does not flatten out but stays up and curved so that the keys are struck with the tips. This is drilled into the students and contributes to strong fingers and greater dexterity. Notice the power of those trills - just magnificent. Incredible playing for this age. Of course is is partly mimicry, like those very young skaters, but I think we all detect a simmering artistry.

@@francescoboneri The Russian school has a whole "science" about touch - all the muscles involved, nerve endings, topography of the tip vs key, etc Horowitz somewhat compensated by keeping his fingers almost touching the keys at all time. (Tried it and found it totally unworkable.) The "secret" is a result of numerous factors - musical history of excellent teachers and examples, ruthless commitment, hard work, a holistic approach beyond the music itself, repetition, sacrifice, etc

What is extraordinary is that Roman Sher aged nine plays the second movement of the Beethoven (indeed the whole sonata) with far more emotional power and understanding than either Kempff or Richter manage. Even the most illustrious pianists often sound as if the piece they are playing they have played a thousand times before - which, of course, they have; whereas, to a child, the music is new, and thus a child's performance, whilst as thoughtful and serious as an adult's, is often refreshingly different. That is the point I was making.

@Val O'Brien One can be a profoundly accomplished musician at a very early age and still have much to learn. There is no contradiction in that. Of course Sher has much to learn. But playing such as Sher's here is vastly more than "mimickry," and patently so - otherwise it would not be so compelling. Sher *does* understand the emotions and moods of these pieces, which are hardly exclusive to the "mature."
@hamiltonpaul73
@hamiltonpaul73 5 жыл бұрын
@Val O'Brien I just don't see the value in a generalization like "at his age he is simply copying". If you exclude the possibility that something richer and more complex is happening, then you will only see what you expect to see . . . Aristotle regarded learning as copying. We now know there is much more of a give and take happening . . . Ask yourself: what did music sound like when you were nine? Did you just receive it like a tape-recorder or did you have your own set of feelings? Personally, I still cherish the feelings I had when I first listened to Beethoven - though I would never have been able to do what Roman Sher does . . .

Well first of all I am not Russian, and right now I wish I could speak it no I wish I could write it. Vladimir has a very strong future as a classical Pianist. { Vladimir did } an amazing no, MORE THAN AMAZING performed at a VLADIMIR PERFORMED AT A PHENOMENAL LEVEL and thank you to the individual that has uploaded this to KZbin for people in the to world to see this. This young gentleman has a very strong future in performing with a piano. ((((( Vladimir is very very good ))))) but the only flaw with this video is the volume of what it's recorded, next time please record it at a higher volume, I had a difficult time hearing the piano. I had to transfer to my surround sound to magnify the sound. Well with that said, and once I had it performing on my surround sound it was like heaven listening to Vladimir as he expressed this particular piece of music on that piano. You see no matter what instrument someone plays you could play something hard or you can play something soft everyone has their own feeling in music and everyone would play a certain piece of music in a different way. This gentleman Vladimir, it's going to have a long wrong future as a classic pianist and I would not be surprised if he moved on to other instruments but the piano will be his stronghold. ( Listening to him perform has been , Beyond phenomenal ! )

Надо было Роме в "Синей птице" поучаствовать. Заметил бы его Мацуев -- популярней Мысина бы стал (думаю, что Рома талантливей).
@user-op9uh5dh2o
@user-op9uh5dh2o 3 жыл бұрын

Sounds like this little guy was making a lot of excuses. I don't think he was particularly happy with his performance. (I believe I caught a couple of mistakes) He certainly was "full" of himself. Even though he's incredibly talented and I know he works hard, he need to learn how to be more humble, and own up to perhaps not having as good as a performance than he would have liked. I really enjoy watching all of these brilliant little musicians...especially Elisey Mysin, Ivan, and Alexander, and others.
