In London, twenty years ago day for day, a match that changed chess history began. On October 9th, at 4pm, watch on our channel the first of a series of shows where the 14th classical World Champion Vladimir Kramnik will talk freely about chess in the 90's, its intrigues and rivalries, but also about his own trajectory up to the match against the invincible Garry Kasparov and his preparation for that match of 2000. World Champion analysis awaits you there, a lot of anecdotes, and more...
00:00 - It was a long time ago, there are people, who don't know that this match took place!
01:25 - Split: Kasparov and Short leave FIDE (1993)
05:45 - Kasparov said many times that he made a mistake by leaving FIDE. It seems to me that the mistake was that he didn't go far enough! The PCA was a clear breakthrough!
11:30 - Parallel cycles for the World Title (1993-94)
12:45 - I was young and full of energy. Why not play both?
14:07 - Dilemma: take part in the FIDE cycle, or play Linares?
18:47 - The Olympiads, and the relations with Kasparov
22:00 - Taking me into the team - what a shock!
23:40 - Being Kasparov's second in the match versus Anand (1995)
25:15 - Did I feel like playing training games against Garry?
28:30 - I saw for the first time how one was supposed to work on chess!
31:15 - After the session, Kasparov asked "Do you want to join us for the match?"
33:00 - Kasparov asks "What's the evaluation of the position? - Not clear! Not clear? Then go back to work and make it clear!"
39:35 - Kasparov had depth, power, but made mistakes sometimes
40:18 - FIDE's new president Ilyumzhinov (1995)
43:13 - PCA and FIDE's losing their war resources in their war against one another
46:15 - Kasparov and Karpov decided to play a unifying match
49:00 - No Candidates' tournament (1997)
52:24 - I didn't like the fact that the tournament had to run at the same time as the FIDE Knock-out tournament
54:05 - When the tournament fell apart, Kasparov changed paths
54:32 - Why I didn't take part in the first FIDE Knock-out?
59:00 - I wrote an open letter to FIDE, but it didn't do anything
1:04:03 - Kasparov began searching for an opponent to play a match (1998)
1:08:40 - I was ready to play. Anand was ok too, but refused in the end
1:09:30 - Kasparov wanted to save the cycle and suggested Shirov in lieu of Anand
1:10:32 - Defeat in the match against Shirov (1998)
1:10:47 - I didn't earn anything! I ran away even money...
1:14:18 - We agreed with Shirov : "The loser takes $200.000"
1:16:50 - If they won't sign the contract, I was ready to leave after game four
1:19:17 - At the closing ceremony I received a $70.000 cheque
1:20:40 - Why did the match between Shirov and Kasparov didn't take place?
1:21:35 - I don't think Kasparov was guilty in that situation...
1:23:44 - Shirov had the right to say : "Do what you promised!"
1:25:30 - How did the Kasparov Kramnik match happen? (2000)
1:27:12 - Kasparov offered Anand to play a match, but he refused
1:28:10 - Kasparov " The sponsors say we have two choices: either a match that's not happening with Anand, either a match with Kramnik, or nothing shall happen."
1:29:18 - I met with Anand and asked him why he didn't want to play?!
1:31:17 - I didn't insist on playing a match with Kasparov, it just happened
