Most people involved in combat didn't have money to buy plate armor(it was very expensive). Also, they used maces/warhammers and polearms(blunt weapons in general) to fight against armored opponents, and even swordfighting had techniques for use against armor that are not allowed here(like stabbing while half-swording). Overall, fights(atleast armored duels like this) didn't take long to end, unless both fighters were only allowed to slash with blunt swords.

Most sword fights with armor usually didn’t happen like this. You were either using a mace or something effective against armor or trying to stab through gaps in armor if all you had was a sword.

in old times very few people could afford a heavy and perfectly designed armor and unbreakable sword and endurant shield like this... these weaponry was preserved only for the Lords and nobles !!! most people in ancient wars used medium, chainmail, leather and sometimes just layers of normal cloth as their armor in battle... and they made 95% of any army in the ancient times !!! aside from Aryan Dynasties(Persians, Parthians, Sassanids) and Romans and Hellenics, no other nation in the world's history could afford having a full army of heavily plated infantry or cavalry, but rather a very small few preserved for nobles, whose lives mattered most for their nations !

Not really mate i endurance train for miles in several forests. It's probably one of the easiest things i do, and it takes no time for your body to adjust. My point how many times they swing sword vs how many times they grapple. Is this not a sword fight?

referrer needs to stop breaking up fights when ever it gets to the ground and they need to let fighters decide on what weapons to use. Let them use some mauls or great swords.

@@robanzzz5124 they can choose to use other weapons, it's just pretty rare that people do. Have seen a couple of fights with guys using polaxes but once you're inside the reach it becomes a bit of a liability. As for maces and axes, they're a good way to get your hand broken. And longswords are basically useless for this style of fight, they just dont hurt enough to make it worth using one. If you could stab then yeah sure knock yourself out, but you can't.

can you have your custom fighting style or do you have to use a sword and a shield ?? my style is more like a two handed sword 35cm hilt + 70cm blade, one sided, with heavy reinforcement on the otherside to increse sword's endurance and weight. and i would like to use my own weapon and heavy armor (like cataphracts of old, the ancient heritage of persians). i would love to participate in this fight if i could do that !

One thing I will say is this shit is cool, But the ring fights make it look out of place. These fights should be conducted on sand or grass outside in more historically appropriate environments. It just looks silly otherwise .

couple things i see in coments people dont understand -true history the amount of weight soldier caries has been about same 20kg+-15kg or so. cause people were human carying more was too heavy and making moving hard carying les means having less protection/ammo/food/gear... witch could mean lover survivality 2- No this isnt how real fights look like! would u like to get hit with sharp sword spear or enyting els even is you have armour on and have chance to die ? or to those people that dont rely understand how historical sword figting works or fysicks or just dont have comon sence att all - would you walk in front of ak47 with military grade bullet proof west on and tel your enemy to shoot you till he runs out of ammo in midle of warzone ??? (if you tought even for nano sekond yes - plz go and try that and come tel me how did that work out) :)

Swords are for keeping a reasonable distance and striking with hacks and thrusts. If they were gonna grapple, they should've used knives. The sword's length is a disadvantage in a grapple.

How are there not more people? Just their family could come? They need to use the rule of thumb, where you fit the arena size to the crowd. Never show that many empty seats. It's comical. Production values are great, though. Just needs the crowd.
