Russian leader Vladimir Putin was given the red carpet treatment at a global summit in Beijing, as China and Russia deepen their solidarity.
Hosted by China's President Xi Jinping, the meeting celebrated 10 years of his signature foreign and economic policy, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Mr Putin was the guest of honour among leaders and officials from more than 130 countries.
He has rarely left his country since invading Ukraine in February last year.

"attention is directed elsewhere" is a little misinformed. All members of the BRI are of course focused on the BRI, and to some extent, also the Palestinian crisis. We can focus on more than a couple of things at once. I agree with the guest. Russia has a lot of influence despite its economy being not as large. France, Germany, Japan and the UK couldn't come closer, but mostly because the US controls their foreign policies. Even Iran or Saudi Arabia is geopolitically more powerful than the UK or Germany.
