Somehow, Sofronitzky makes me hear a different Chopin. I have heard this pieces since I was a child. But his approach is so unique; he manages to get under the piece's skin... What a genius, this Russian pianist. Incredible!

as a pianist familiar with a large part of the literature -- and having worked with singers , opera and lieder, etc - i am so pleased to hear a pianist that actually makes me CRY from his playing the way great singers have. heplays the chopin as if a singer does from DEEP inside their gut and breathing...what a GIFT Sofronitsky was!!! THANK YOU TRUECRYPT for sharing.

Sofronitsky was one of the rare pianists that played LIKE a SINGER. not in "imitation of" singers -- but as someone who actually understood how a singer would breathe, how much time they need to take breathe, how LONG they can sustain when they have to use up air between intense strong notes and soft, concentrated soft ones..how a good singer "lifts" notes or climbs from low to high..how to fill the space between large intervals and from small close intervals..HE was a TRUE singer at the piano.

I hope there is some footage, but I've never seen any... It would be so great actually to see Sofronitsky playing!

Thank you for sharing these wonderful recordings. Just wondering, is there any film out there of Sofronitsky playing live? There seems to be plenty of Richter,

Thanks Dear truecript for this treasure! Do you happen to have op.64 no2 (the famous c#minor one)? Please, upload, if you can find it, thanks!

mi trovi perfettamente d'accordo: Sofronitsky usava il pianoforte come una voce modulando le note con una perizia ineguagliata.

i'd like to translate it for smithsherman but i cannot:(... but briefly it was a gentle proposal to purchase a couple of bit better ears for himself(:

Quelle différence avec la Barcarolle et la Fantaisie!!!
@SCRIABINIST2 жыл бұрын
Mais il n'est pas la Barcarolle et la Fantaisie ici?? C'est tout les valses de Chopin!

Nope... seems like it doesn't exist... :(
