Part 3: • Teddy Riley: The 1st B...
Part 1: • Teddy Riley on Growing...
--------
In this clip, Teddy Riley started off opening up about working with Doug E. Fresh, and he went on to speak about producing “The Show,” which also featured Slick Rick. Teddy explained that he was in the group “Kids at Work,” and he admitted that he didn’t want to call himself a producer. He then stated that he didn’t know if “The Show” would be a big hit, and Teddy added that he explained how to make the beat over the phone because he was grounded. Teddy went on to speak about working on Kool Moe Dee’s “Go See the Doctor” at 16, and he detailed perfecting his beat-making skills. From there, Teddy spoke about doing block parties, which is where he met Kool Moe Dee.

My first time seeing an interview with Teddy and i must say his persona is not what i thought it would be. This guy is very soft spoken, reserved and humble for being such a legend in the industry. The stuff he was doing as a teen was insane musically. Very cool dude and great interview.

Eh. this is the mature 50-something version of Teddy. This dude came up in Harlem of the 70s and 80s - as a young kid when the heroin trade was crazy and as a teen during the the crack era. His friends were those hustlers. He's mature and doesn't glamorize that side of things. He doesn't make it sound threatening but he's saying that he was untouchable because of his connections.

And I can honestly say his sound isn’t one you can oh that’s a teddy Riley production, you get surprised like teddy did that too?!

Teddy Riley is aging in reverse! That only comes from living a good life and not taking advantage of others. He has contributed so much to the industry that I don't know why the Grammys or BET has not awarded him accordingly. He is very talented and humble. Loving this interview, Vlad.

At least in hip hop. Agreed, but please don’t forget that Prince and Stevie Wonder were both producers. TR is the mirrored east coast version of L.A.’s Dr. Dre. Dre being the R & B producer who goes rap, and TR being the hip hop producer who graduates to mainly R & B.
