Sad Boy Loko opened up to VladTV about the negative aspects of joining a gang and his own experiences of joining when he was just thirteen. The West Coast rapper explained that he was always running with an older crowd and gangs became a way of life early on, which grew into aspirations of doing life in prison.
During the conversation, Sad Boy Loko spoke about how his perspective changed after he got older and had kids, adding that it makes him angry to think about his kids going down that path. To hear more of what Sad Boy Loko had to say, including how he thinks gangs could be stopped, hit the above clip.

When youre young and really in that life and seeing your OGs and people around you that you look up to getting that time and getting praised for doing that work of course youre gonna want to be just like what you look up to. Thats all they know. That street life is a whole nother lil world. Sounds crazy but it's a crazy life. I disagree on dude but i understand the street life mindset. Regular people wouldn't understand it.

I remember growing up with that same mentality. People on the comments saying wanting to do time in prison is "gay" and this nigga must not like pussy... But as a kid pussy isn't on your mind like that, and you don't associate being stuck in a cell as precious time wasted because most of the time you're still stuck in the block doing nothing. Movies and older heads make going to prison sound like a vato just graduated high school and is heading to the university, where you make connections you can utilize once you're back on the streets (which is true). But I was always about my grades. I would tell myself that if I did dirt, I had to hit the books just as hard. (had to make my mother and the hood proud) I make plenty of legit money thanks to my education, but its hard to break away from that hood mentality. Gang culture, power, homies that are down for you, having bitches on call with plenty of untaxed money to spend on selfish desires... its all too enticing for a man.

When I was in my teens I aspired to go to prison as well, not to do life but to make to the penitentiary, at that age you feel like you will have that street credibility and respect from the neighborhood and will be seen as one bad dude.. It was foolish of me to think that way but that's the mentality in the streets, I went to county jail a few times and said heck no this ain't for me, I love my freedom lol but its sad that our young generation still think that way and have lil to no guidance from older homies to lead them down a different path of violence and crime. I give thanks to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for delivering me from that mentality! I pray for those caught up in that life style and I share my experience when I get a chance with the younger generation hoping and praying maybe one will listen and make that change.

Gangs will never go away because its just another organization form that people participate in, and humans have evolved to coalesce into social networks. Gangs are just a label that are put on them because society likes to put names on things. There will always be support networks, regardless of what means they use to get resources to provide said support. If you want that style of organization to end you need to provide them a more lucrative option to feed and protect themselves.

Here's the truth: I grew up around these cats & they love being locked up, but they will never admit it. In jail/prison, they're actually important. Where as in the REAL WORLD, they're just another fish in a big ass ocean. In prison, they're big fish in a small pond. And as far as pussy, they either struggle to get it or it causes too much drama, so they don't sweat it. That's why Mexican gangsters have so much power in prison; they love prison life. I'm Mexican, but I decided to think like an Italian gangster when it came to breaking the law. You lose points in the mob if you go to prison. It's looked down upon. That's another reason why I stopped selling weed & got into white collar crimes instead. Check out my book. It breaks it all down. - Keymo (author)
