www.vladtv.com - As "Straight Outta Compton" continues to make strides at the box office, Above The Law emcee Cold 187um chopped it up with VladTV and broke down the relationship between Dr. Dre and Eazy-E.
The West Coast emcee explained how the two artists went from being like brothers to despising one another, leading Dre to drop the diss track "Dre Day." When asked how Eazy felt about the track, Cold 187um revealed that the "Eazy-Duz-It" rapper wasn't ever bothered by it, because he didn't see Dr. Dre or any of the other rappers on the song as a threat.
During the conversation Cold 187um also shared his thoughts on Suge Knight, whom he said was very cool to hang out with in the early days. He also revealed that Above the Law wanted to part ways with Ruthless Records and go to Death Row with Dre, but they were in the early days of their contract and Eazy wouldn't allow it.
Find out more of what Cold 187um had to say about the Ruthless/Death Row split in the above clip, including Eazy's thoughts on Dr. Dre leaving his label.

... people forget that Eazy was originally a sponsor for Dre, Ren, Yella, and Cube. He was the one that put the money up and in business, whoever's invests the money will be the first to get their money back with interest (depending on the agreement). He was never suppose to be on "their level". He was a business man first. They made him a rapper and happened to skillfully evolve which made him on their level and cloud his role and level but at the end of the day, he was the only one of them all that put $$$$ up. As a recording artist, you're crazy to think you will be paid as equal to the company that's financing your career; marketing, promotion, distribution, tour travel, room stay, food, recording production, and advance money. All are costs at the record company's expense.

They were never on "his level" neither as they always claimed. He was the only gangster, maybe Ren too but he was always on the streets. Like you say he wasn't even supposed to be an rapper. It's just that he wanted to quit hustling and work his way up the legal way. Or else he wouldn't even be involved hanging around with these dudes. He'd be on the streets of Compton while they would be home playing DJ as a hobby, hoping and dreaming lol.

javi m Why would you even use Eazy's tragic death as a way to get your point across? Aren't you a Dr Dre fan? You know Dre and Eazy were basically brothers right? Dre says so himself in recent interviews. Their beef spanned 2 years and ended 20 years ago. Dre has spoken repeatedly about how much he regrets it. These days, the arguments of "I think Dre won the beef" or "I think Eazy won the beef, his diss was better" is completely fine when it comes to discussing it 22 years later... but playing the 'he's dead' card?

Dre Day was a far better record than Real Gz. Better beat and pokes funs at their enemies like Luke and eazy. It wasn't a "serious" diss on Eazy. Eazy was far more bitter on his track, clearly he was upset, and it actually dented NWAs legacy by admitting they were a fake group.

The more I here about how the whole Dre leaving situation went down, the more I think that Eazy was the only one who acted like a grown up and understood how business works. Maybe that's because he actually was older than the rest of the boys. But still, "yes, I will let y'all leave Ruthless. But we have contracts. I'm not just gonna rip them up without compensation. I need to be taken care of. Go ahead, you can leave. But this is a business." Then Suge and Dre go off like angry children and try to just bully him into it. Like, yeah we'll just ignore all the stuff that's written down. Cuz yeah, that's how the world works. Please, you're just gonna try to intimidate me into giving money away? Child please. Honestly, most of what Suge did was really just extortion.

I feel bad that they sort of "stole" the G-Funk idea from ATL, but honestly Dre took that concept to the next level. He mastered it much better than they ever would have. Listen to all of the music coming out during the late 80's up until The Chronic (1992) came out... The Chronic was sonically the most well produced hip-hop album up to that point hands down. The beats, lyrics, execution. melodies etc were like the equivalent of space aliens coming down and lending brand new technology to mere humans. Dre's understanding of how to take a sample and turn it into something totally different, yet at the same time capture the original essence of it was uncanny, especially for that period in hip-hop.

Ahhh, interesting... The OG 187um said Above the Law came up with G-funk and while I've never thought about it like that, he's right: their albums were definitely doing the thick bass lines, swirling synths, and interpolating old funk records before any Death Row jawns dropped. That's why I love these interviews: gain a little insight into the important but unknown details of how it all went down.

have you heard Uncle Sam's Curse? It is better than both those albums, especially The Chronic, the Chronic has like 4 good songs, the rest is filler. And while those songs are phenomenal, Dre's production can't touch 187um's on Uncle Sam's Curse, the beats are so much funkier on USC, the sample flips much more creative and interesting, I could go on and on, USC is the better album.
@gardoe.c.476
@gardoe.c.476 8 жыл бұрын
Nah, I haven't. I don't need to hear it to know that that album isn't better than both albums, especially The Chronic. Just putting Uncle Sam's Curse up there with those dope albums is absurd. The Chronic's tracks are all dope and Eazy-Duz-It's most tracks are dope. It's just common sense to understand both albums are better than Uncle Sam's Curse. Both are classics in hip-hop. Rappers, producers, rap critics/experts, and hip-hop heads know this. Everybody has their opinions, but you're obviously being bias. And devaluing The Chronic shows it more, when in fact The Chronic is easily a top 10 rap album ever, if not top 5. So your logic is basically that a Above The Law album is also a top 10 ever and better than Eazy-Duz-It and "especially" The Chronic. That's wrong. I respect your opinion though. A.T.L. are dope.
