In a recent interview, comedian Bill Bellamy revealed a shocking moment from the early '90s involving R. Kelly and Aaliyah. Bellamy recounted how, in what he believes was 1993 or 1994, he was set to interview Aaliyah, then around 15 years old, alongside R. Kelly, who had produced her debut album "Age Ain't Nothing But a Number." The interview took place in the Hamptons, with both artists dressed in matching outfits. As Bellamy was successfully drawing Aaliyah out of her shyness and into an engaging conversation, R. Kelly abruptly ended the interview and left, taking Aaliyah with him. Confusion ensued among the TV executives present, as they had planned the segment to promote Aaliyah’s upcoming album. It later emerged that R. Kelly, who was secretly married to Aaliyah at the time, was likely acting out of jealousy. Despite the abrupt end to their first meeting, Bellamy revealed that he maintained a good relationship with Aaliyah and her family, conducting several more interviews with her later on.

I was actually 16, when I met her. Aaliyah was in our city doing promotions for Summerfest Concert in '94 and my dad hired the local station for an hour Radio Broadcast for 96.3 WJIZ at our family business that Friday and to our surprise Aaliyah showed up to sign autographs and promote the Concert. When she found it that it was my Birthday, she sang Happy Birthday to me, during a commercial break. She had a couple managers with her and now that I look back, I realize it's because she was still a minor. Although, there were rumors at the time that she was married to R. Kelly, she was very tomboyish wearing baggy clothes that were in style at the time and hadn't matured into the Sex Symbol she eventually became. I just remember that she had a sweet innocence and pure heart for a young girl just starting her career and just like that her management told us that she was headed off to the Islands to do her first Video Shoot for her first album.

Even lil ol me knew it was something going on with those two cuz those pics were intimate, wearing matching outfits, beautiful 14 year old girl with maturity & an angelic voice, singing on his record your body's callin remix & she singing do you wanna eat??!
