That's fine, but what Willie and Vlad were speaking on is not even remotely practical for the average REGULAR working person/family. Not very many people can pay cash for a house and the whole concept of not going into debt for a home but settling with renting for 15-30 or more years is just stupid to say and shows how out of touch even the most down to earth upper income/wealthy folks think (Willie D). It makes a hell of a lot more sense to pay a mortgage than it does to pay rent for regular folks because at some point you will have some equity in that home that you can leverage for other things (college, home repairs, investment, opportunities, etc.). They are speaking from the view of people who are wealthy and have the means to invest in properties while owning a home that they were able to pay cash for.
