Coke La Rock came through for his first-ever VladTV interview, where he detailed his friendship with DJ Kool Herc, and being considered the person who birthed hip-hop. During his sit-down, Coke La Rock spoke about becoming known for his rhymes and the Sugar Hill Gang stealing some of his lines. He also detailed leaving hip-hop after an incident at the Sparkle Club in NYC where a man was stabbed, and Coke La Rock went on to share his thoughts on the evolution of hip-hop. This was a good interview but it needs to be said Coke LA Rock was one of the first mcs but people need to understand that their are different areas of the Bronx Kool Herc and Coke LA Rock was mostly on the westside of the Bronx performing. You also had Hip-Hop going on at the eastside of the Bronx like the Soundview Bronx River Bronxdale areas which Disco King Mario and the Chuck Chuck City Crew Dj Kool Dee MC Feva Dee and the Puma City Crew also Mario also had Dj Jazzy Jay MC Sundance Master Ice if I'm not mistaken Master Bee lil Starski who all left Mario to start performing with Africa Bambaata to create the Zulu Nation. I remembered Coke LA Rock and Kool Herc in 75 in the Bronx, playing at Highbridge Park and Cedar Park. He definitely would hype the party. I don't remembered him as a rapper. These guys were pioneers for the culture and deserve their flowers. Other neighborhoods had their local stars, like Mario and others. Kool Herc and Coke LA Rock were the West Bronx stars back then.

The quote is also referenced in an article online entitled: A Salute To James Brown - The Godfather Of Hip-Hop. Herc stated this in 1984. This idea that hip-hop came from Jamaica or that Kool Herc created hip-hop all by himself is blatantly false. Hip-hop grew up out of the Bronx gang culture, specifically the Black Spades, of young black American teens in the late 60s to early 70s.

Rapping over breakbeats did not start at Kool Herc parties. It started with the ghetto Disco DJs, and Coke La Rock is FBA and he didn't rhyme in traditional style. DJ Hollywood was the first to rhyme syncopated style during that era and he is FBA. Herc is a fraud.
