They've had contracts for years. Watch the Hitman vs Arsonal battle. That battle was in 2010. Hitman says, "his homeboy talkin while I'm rappin, not cool, *the contract* says I can't hit this nigga, not you." So, URL has had contracts for years. They needed contracts to use people's material. The artist signs a contract saying URL can use the footage and URL pays them money in return. Plus, the contracts were also set up to prevent fighting from breaking out between battlers. Like Hitman said in this video, the contract has it that if you fight, you don't get your money. The contracts also outline what day the event is taking place and how many minutes a round battlers go (for reference watch the Cortez vs T-Rex battle, which Beasley talked about in an interview with "Chris Unbias Review"). More recently, URL stepped it up. Before, PG battlers used to battle at URL and elsewhere, Beasley, Smack, Norbes, etc., said, "no more," and had PG battle rappers signing contracts tying them to the URL. Just this past few weeks, URL announced cuts to its roster, and Danny Myers was a part of that because he didn't want to be locked in with URL through a contract. There's a video of Myers talking about it. But they've had contracts for a good while.
