Sure, EA2 wasn't what it needed to be. Especially given what we had seen from Uzi prior, with the Pink Tape, and the potential Barter 16 release. But I think its important to recognise that sometimes artist development comes with declining commercial viability. Stylistically, there is no one that comes remotely close to Uzi, and we saw that with EA2. He's continuing to push himself into a lane that only he occupies. I just think for what ever reason, if its drugs, the times, or just the shit he's going through, the music just didn't match the level of the aesthetic. Lets not forget that before WLR, Uzi was running laps around Carti commercially. But you could tell that during that time Carti was just doing him and evolving his brand. Now I think the roles have reversed, and its Uzi's turn to take some time out to continue developing and evolving his sound. But lets be honest, if I had to choose between peak Carti or Uzi, I'm choosing Uzi any day of the week. I just think Uzi is a better all around talent. Also, I completely disagree with Akademiks. I don't think he has enough awareness or vision of the artist landscape that Uzi is trying to traverse to comment. Sure, we all love that OG Uzi. But I think that Uzi's brand of rage is VERY unique to him, and has been successful. I mean look at Pink Tape. Also, who in the mainstream is gonna give you those ethereal, final fantasy esk Glo beats, or team up with Snow Strippers for a Neo-Indie Sleaze bop. When it comes to mainstream rage, I break it down into three main acts: You've got Trav doing the spacey shit, you've got Carti doing the more traditional blend of metal and trap, and you've got Uzi with this bubbly, anime aesthetic that is juxtaposed by more sinister, darker undertones that are supported by the fundamental musical elements of the rage genre itself. All of this comes back to the point that I think Uzi is continuing to grow artistically and pave his own way, and just like Carti was in the lead up to what we are witnessing now, He isn't afraid to sacrifice a bit of commercial viability to get there. And as we are now seeing with Carti, that work in R&D tends to pay off in the long run in terms of separating yourself from your contemporaries. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Lol why the fuck this so long, I guess I was just waiting for the opportunity to comment on this topic lmao.
