Hi Pete, I'm trying to use VLC V3.0.21 (latest, completely fresh new install) on Windows 10 to do exactly as you've shown, but I get no audio with the recorded video. I get this error message: Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'wasapi://'. Check the log for details. I'm guessing there is some other setting needed. Do you have any ideas please?

thank u pete, I positively followed your instructions EXACTLY and still the audio of my screen from my computer did not record. what do u recommend for audio recording wise if I do have to record my video and audio separately then put them together after I have my desired materials recorded? ~ Roarr!

ha! actually I found that it did work though the audio of my vlc media player was set to very low by default and firstly I did not see that and then I raised my vlc media player volume and the audio did record! woww true! it was funnely and tunnely like lower quality than the audio of the video it recorded from please know, I will continue to try other recording methods and settings. I think that my issue may have been with the Profile i selected: video - H.264 + mp3 (mp4) then I tried full recorder, which only added that name to all the recording samples I attempted. Then when I was at the audio profile selection menu page again I clicked the red X to deselect the original "video - H.264 + mp3 (mp4)" profile setting and then found that it actually deleted from my vlc media players settings, whoa! I went to control panel, I uninstalled vlc media player and deleted it, then I re-installed and downloaded it with renewed default settings and now that convert audio setting profile has returned gladly and still the audio of all the samples I recorded were there, just not good quality. I shall keep at it, please advise ~ Roarr!

I had the issue where you get an error message saying VLC is unable to open the MRL 'wasapi://'. To fix this I had to go to my computers sound settings then to the sound control panel. Then I had to go to recordings and right click and enable "show disabled devices" and then "stereo mix" should show up. If you enable it and set it as default you wont get the error message. If it still doesnt record it may be that you are using a usb headset, if so, it might not give an output as stereo mix only gives an output if you are using one of the headphone jacks. To fix this I had to plug in a pair of headphones into one of the jacks on the pc and set it to the default output, this fixed the issue and vlc recorded the pc audio as shown in the video. You may have to listen to your audio on a cheep pair of headphones if you dont have any good ones tho.

That's strange..did you enter the wasapi:// in the additional info section?

It's Windows Audio Session API (WASAPI). The only thing I can think of is that something else on your PC is hogging audio resources. Maybe try and restart the audio card. It's strange it works for me every time. Have you got the latest VLC player installed?

VLC SUCKS HAHAHA. I START RECORDING AND THE RESULT IS .DOC INSTEAD OF MP4. BUT I CHECK THE PROPERTIES. AND IT SAYS THERE IS A TIME WHEN IT STARTS AND ENDS AND IT SAYS 1HR . IT MEANS THE METADATA RECORDS 1 HOUR SCREEN RECORDING. BUT I LIVE ON A TWILIGHT ZONE I THINK. VLC FEAT TWILIGHT ZONE.
