I had a 1986 on a C plate RX7 light metallic blue..pristine condition. I bought it for £2,500. The dude who had it had just bought it from his father but had met a chick who wanted to put down a deposit on a flat. They wanted £3,200 at that time. I had gone to buy an XR2 but it turned out to be a rust-bucket. I made him the £2,500 offer of cash. He said "no..can't go that low" and pushed the car out from the garage(had taken battery out). He knew I had fallen in love. He had had no offers for it and sat their with his head in his hands not knowing what to do. After allowing me to drive it up the road and back, he made me a coffee and we sat there discussing how beautiful this car was for 15 minutes. He suddenly looked up and said two words I will never forget.."...I am going to be in deep shit for this but to hell with that...IT'S YOURS...and the reason I am letting it go to you is because you stayed to drive it despite me saying "NO". If that isn't a person in love with this thing of rare beauty who will appreciate this car and look after it..who is?...I accept your offer". He asked me if he could sit in it one last time..then thanked me for buying it... ...and I was gone...3 years of owning the most beautiful, reliable, fastest, best car I have or probably will ever own. P.S. 7 years later I was driving through Bristol, England when there she was..C28WHN. BATTERED to a pulp by a dude who raced her. How do I know. I TRIED TO BUY HER BACK...heart-breaking when they said "no". Wow...RX7.....what a car.
