Vlog 23: Exploring The Breakwaters At Marina South Pier & Land Based Saltwater Fishing In Singapore

A simple life vlog, living and fishing in Singapore.
Good Day! We started the day off from where we left off in the last vlog! Met Justin at Golden Mile Food Centre for breakfast before proceeding to do some tackle shopping at Beach Road. We visited Joe Fishing Tackle & World Fishing Centre. Took the opportunity to check out the range of Rapala VMC items at both shops. The next day I joined Justin for a fish at Marina South Pier. We explored the stretch of breakwaters near the pier as well as the stretch near the Marina Bay Cruise Centre. The weather was good and we ended fishing for the entire morning till early afternoon.

Hi where did you get the weighted offset hook for the soft plastic? I didn't know weedless hook still can get snagged on the rocks

Thanks for the comment! You can refer to 7:00 in the video for the weedless hook details. Unfortunately, I feel there’s no such thing as a snag proof lure. It’s just how you work the lure or choose to risk the lure for its intended purpose. Hopping lures off the bottom is a risky game but sometimes that is what you’ve got to do to search for the fish. In my case, most of the times, I snag up when I wait that second or two longer when retrieving back to shore. The lure just needs to lodge itself in between a couple of rocks or on coral and it’s stuck. So I have to learn to resist the temptation at times and figure out when to retrieve the lure back and reset at whichever fishing terrain I’m at. Thanks for the comment. I was using the same set up from Vlog 22 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/f53aiGuIiZJ5e5Ysi=n5WHkCRhjaVXguQT) as the plan was to target groupers off the drop off/ledge.

Thanks for the comment! Yes, I have lost my fair share of lures before. Using jigs and soft plastics to hop off the bottom can be a dangerous and snaggy game. Crankbaits too as they often get lodged between rocks and are very difficult to dislodge even with the method (kzbin.infoZM-DUEdkEwo?si=XddtDXz1KKXJ_r70) I’ve shared on how to retrieve a stuck lure.

It’s always a blessing when I can get a snagged lure back but that’s part and parcel of this sport we love. Got to “pay tuition fees” to learn more about the spot and for the angler to learn more about themselves too 👍
