I spent over a year touring North America on a multi 1200 enduro . I was working with 3 child charities . I had left the bike parked and flown to Colombia and to nyc to support them. After 24,000 miles the bike started shutting off on the highway speeds and turning back on . It almost killed me several times and I almost fell under an 18 wheeler . They couldn’t figure out why it was doing this . At 25,000 miles the engine needed a rebuild . That took 3 months in seattle, even thought the national sales managers told me it would be ready in two weeks.I had to spend thousands of dollars on hotels,fight. I had to contact the ceo and the news before they agreed to fix it. The dealer wanted to help but Ducati blamed the bike shutting off and needing an engine rebuild due to damaged pistons and internal cylinder damage on a dirty chain.!! I rode 980 miles in one day to a dealer so yea the chain was dirty that day. I had to fly back to seattle twice and spend weeks there to finally get the bike at the end I was out $5,000 . After I got it back it ran like a beast for a few days then had some hiccups . After 2 weeks it broke down again in northern Cali but It came back to life . I rode it to southern Cali and it went down again for a month and half between waiting for an opening at local dealer and parts from Italy . I Got it back and it lasted a few day. I had to wait for another opening for service. It Was down again for Another months and a half in souther Cali. same story again wait for opening and parts from Italy bla bla. I had to fly back to New Jersey and Cali twice . that was another few thousand $$$ between hotels and flights. When I Got it back I informed Ducati I was going to do a coast to coast run in 48 hours for the iron butt association. I tried to cross the USA in 48 hours San Diego to Daytona bike week 2020 but The engine went down after 500 miles on day 1. I was almost run over when a cylinder shut off on the highway at 80mph. Took 6 days to cross the USA as the bike would shut off or run erratically one 1 cylinder when ever it felt like it. Left it in Florida to get fixed again. Had to rent a car and drive 1100 miles home to New Jersey when the pandemic started and the nation was shut down. I Flew back down to get it once flights started again. I tried to sell it to the dealer before I took it because my family was afraid the bike would kill me. The Ducati dealer in Sanford Florida dealer said he can’t sell those things he just sold his only 2018 model and it was June 2020. I left the dealer and a few hours later it started acting up . I had to sell it to a used bike shop on the side of the road for pennies on the dollar. Rent a car and drive home again. I spent over $1,000 flying and renting cars just from Florida . Plus I had to pay the used bike shop $1,000 to take the bike and pay $600 for new tires because the bikes have such a slow turn around. The multi have shit resale value . When Ducati dealers won’t take them on trade in, that has to tell you something. Every bmw/Ducati dealer I stopped at told me I bought the wrong bike. To tour North America. They didn’t want to buy it off me because according to them they can only sell 1 multistrada enduro every 12-24months but they sell GSA1200 all year long. Between the $10,000 I put on the deposite,$5,000 on maintenance at Ducati dealers, and thousands I spent flying home,taking Uber’s from hotels to dealers,renting cars and hotel rooms I could have bought a GS Adventure and rode around the world. Along the way due to the delays I lost the support of the charities I was working with because of all the delays I couldn’t meet deadlines and be where I was supposed to be at the dates I was supposed to be. I never made it to the Arctic Ocean ,Hawaii,Mexico ,Cuba . I missed the flights to Puerto Rico ,Dominican republic and other places the charities were helping poor kids. Worst yet was the fact that Ducati’s customer support suggested I have the charities fix the bike,that would take money away from poor children . I almost gave Ducati a second chance with the new 2021multi enduro ,but I’m glad I didn’t . The new multi enduro has had an engine recall and all the engines on all the bikes have to be replaced . Ducati’s multistarda just is not reliable for what they made it for . Don’t waste your money buy Japanese or a GSA. As far as I can tell Ducati means unreliable garbage in Italian

@@zarzarzar212 I toured Cali with a German named Bernie who lives in the Yukon. He was riding a used Suzuki 650 that he paid $3,000 for . We were supposed to ride through Mexico together and I would get on a ship to Cuba with my Ducati and he would ride his used Versy back to Canada .My bike was in the shop for so long in southern Cali that he was able to tour Mexico for 3 months by the time I finally got my bike back . We met the day he got back . That was also the after I got my bike back . We rode local for a day to test out my super expensive but unreliable ducati . He got an oil change . The next morning at 5am He headed north to Canada I headed east. On my 48 hour coast to coast run. He made it . My bike broke down on day one ,500 miles into the ride. The bike broke at highway speeds and almost got me run over. He made it fine to Canada sold the bike and bought a newer used bike. Even an old Japanese bike that’s only worth a few grand seems to be a better bet then a Ducati for long touring .
Wah that bike power sia! When you love something, nothing cost too much.

I agreed on the part where Ducati is no longer a "Sick bike" after year 2014. Those never own one, please don't spread fake news... your friend own before and still not you own before... 😉

So bikes like Ducati 999 can forget it ah? I’m still contemplating on one in carousell
@Joel-xe4re3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jacob, Joel here. To answer your question, like what has been discussed, if the previous owner was the meticulous with the maintenance, you'll be forking out a lot for repairs. Ducatis are maintenance sensitive, just like any high performance motorcycle. Get someone who knows how to look at the 999, and decide how much you are willing to spend to restore it. DM me at @61bronco if you would like to know more about the 999.
@MyAndyboy1233 жыл бұрын
@@jacobchua7374, no harm getting it if the bike condition is good and you know the owner had done a good job. Take a look at the maintenance checklist on the frequency to do it and at what milage to change what. Old bike need alot of TLC...
