"It's not that hard, it's just hard to be groovy with it." That's the key and why it ends up working!!! That is a complex little riff there, that's the kind of stuff I have problems with, too. And I'm in the same boat, some songs come very naturally, others are a lot of work. Funny, most times it's hard to play the bass part slower than at normal speed. Thanks for the advice!

Im always checking out other bass players and how they find ways to resolve things. I been playing bass since 1975 and out of all the things I found to be the hardest is sing lead vocals while on Bass. Thanks for the video. It gives me more ways to try and get that down. So far the best way I found ( Don't Laugh ) is to sit back with a drink, mellow out and close your eyes and just get into yourself doing both. Now I have to break the habit of closing my eyes when I sing ! LOL And by the way, Love your eyes. :-)

Very nice. I use a very similar method for learning new songs by ear.

first time i tried i deemed it impossible, than checked out Sting and he intentionally plays very simple bass lines, so i cemented in my opinion that it's impossible thanks for shattering this illusion

I use Cubase, which may also have those division settings. When I need to hear the eighth notes click, I just switch the time signature to 8/8. I'm going to look and see if it has divisions settings now. Cool song, btw, slow and fast.

Cool vid :) you could try using varispeed to change play back speed? Super quick and easy
@AdrienneOBand10 жыл бұрын
Varispeed? I haven't heard of it. But I know there are a few different ways to change playback speed. Capo is super easy too, I don't remember if I mentioned it in the video.

You're both a great player and singer. I've been playing bass for a long time and I sing and play at the same time. I would definitely have to work on this to get it right. Incidentally, you can change the tempo without changing the pitch in Audacity, which is free. You have to dig into the menus a little bit. Thank you for sharing. I may have to practice your cool bass line and try your vocal part, just to build up my skill. That is probably more difficult than everything that I sing and play at the same time. For me though, I've been playing in the same group for about 32 years and everything that we play is so automatic for me. Thank you for sharing. Take care.

AWESOME VID. Super challenging thing to do, and so helpful you made this vid for the peeps! (Can you play drums and sing as well?)
@AdrienneOBand10 жыл бұрын
I used to be able to sort of sing one song and play drums at the same time, but I never did that in public. I think that's harder than playing bass and singing for sure! I only played drums for a couple of years.
@MikeNorth01018 жыл бұрын
I played drums for many years and became late learner bassist, I would sing harmony on drums and many lead vocals, played pro, wasn't an issue. When I start to sing whilst playing bass, I just stop one of them lol either I stop playing bass and carryon singing or the other way round!! lol Though for some reason I can play 8 Days a Week by the beatles and play bass, just that one tune??!! hahaha

I really dig this tune, and actually prefer it slowed down. Overall, fantastic!

my recommendation for learning to sing and play bass: The Police songs they have not a lot of bass going on but are very rewarding if you nail them (roxanne, so lonely)
