What a fun adventure! I'm an AirBnb host here in the US. Definitely looked into doing a vacation rental in Mexico but decided against it for now. My biggest concerns were rights of ownership and the fact that the international vacation market can get hit pretty hard during economic downturns. So, if the property isn't doing well as a short-term rental, you could sell it. Well, properties tend to stay on the market for a while in Baja. Recommend talking with an experienced local real estate lawyer before you invest. The laws in Mexico are that foreigners can't own property outright, but there are provisions that allow foreigners to hold leases in perpetuity, which is in effect like owning the property.
