The rice had that colour because of shrimp paste. In Thailand that dish is called khao kluk kapi

That makes so much sense now. Thank you for the explanation. I knew that it had a meat flavor, but I couldn't quite place it. Haha.

It was very delicious. I still have no idea what the rice was cooked with. It was such a unique flavor. I'll have to try it again to see if I can figure it out.

I’m a fan. Striving to do what you do, slow travel SE Asia. We’re the same age, curious, are you retired? Have to come back west at some point?

Thank you. Nice having you here. I think that slow travel is the way to go. Just take your time and explore everything you can without just being in a rush. It's so much less stress. I'm what you could call semi-retired. I have some savings and I'm using that to take some time off and enjoy myself. If I end up making enough money on KZbin to sustain myself then I'll just keep doing this, otherwise, I'll get a job teaching next year. All I know is that I have no intentions of going back to the west anytime soon. I'm happy here.

@@FrugalWanderer The OG ( that I know of ) of real Slow Travel is Vagabond Awake . He travels Slowly maintaining NO home base and has been doing it for many many years . I believe one of his sayings was to the effect of - Never paying for a bed I'm not sleeping in made it all possible . Whenever I hear the term I think of his template .

I've never heard of him but I will check it out. I never thought that this was a concept that I alone decided to follow. I figured that there are many out there like me. Good to know.

@@FrugalWanderer I just replied and don't see it so sorry if I duplicate . Yes " Slow Travel " meaning slowly traveling . A month here , 3 months there , no Home Base just Slow Travel . The term has mutated over the years and I am seeing it now more and more not really describing Slow Travel . I have even seen it used to describe 52 different destinations in 1 year !! The opposite !! Nothing against any other methodology of course but giving this very knowledgeable man his due . He must be over 15 years at this now
