Hey Brad. 100% double deeps for winter. Its best for cold climate and its really easy to make splits and manage in spring

Getting stuff cleaned up, Brad is back on his game and in his happy place. 👏👏👏 That'll boost the Zombies well, that is a real nice thing about having multiple hive you have multiple options. Not sure what people that only have 1 or 2 do. 🤔Sounds like your buddy is a professional hobbyist like me.😁Many of us take our hobby as serious as the professionals we just don't want to work as hard as you pros.🤫😂 Blessed Days Brad...

Looks like it's all starting to come together nicely. If we can only get a break from this rain.

I have a wagon just like that & I do the exact same thing. Move a hive about a foot a day. It's slow, but it works.

I started marking queens by hand this year. It was pretty intimidating at first but not it's no big deal. Probably took 10-15 before it became second nature. Much quicker and I honestly think it's safer for the queen. Great video this week! Take Care!

Hello I also used medium frames for comb honey but a few years ago I started using shallow well that does work but it has its down side so next year I will for sure go back to using mediums . I was going to this year but just didn’t have the time I needed to switch over.The med. has a lot more flexibility with them an uses . Also I use to just use the starter strips but the bees were bad about putting a lot of brood cells in it so I went back to using the thin foundation just for comb honey an it works great . WOW your yard is sure getting fuller an fuller . Thanks

I would like to see you winter half inside and half outside. You need to leave space in between hives indoors so you can sweep up dead bees periodically and monitor for pests. The hives outdoors I think run singles fed up to a heavy weight. If they run short of feed towards the back end of winter just put fondant or candy boards on. Feeding up a double would be too much feed in fall.

Brad, I checked my hives mid week also and there was very little open brood or eggs. Definite dearth from rain and windy weather here. Flow shut down and they are stalling. I need a lot of sunny days.

50 /50, yes it would do go as a double this winter

🇺🇦💛💙🇨🇦 🐝 Hi Brad. My opinion is deep singles. And protect from wind, mice and other things that may disturb the bees during winter. Bees usually tolerate cold well if there is enough honey. Thank you very much for the video

We are in south west minnesota. We run 150-200, and winter about 100 inside and the rest outside. Been successful with singles either way, but are going to mostly doubles just because we have a hard time getting them to take syrup in the spring. With doubles they get going in spring much better for us

I'm an hr south of you and have been overwintering singles and doubles outside. Both work well but as far as fall mite treatments I prefer singles because it's more cost effective but love the doubles for ease of mind as being light on stored in a cold long spring. My doubles always brood up faster but the singles seem to catch up quickly. I like the idea of single deep till fall treatments are done then slapping a medium of pre filled/capped stores as insurance. But I don't have mediums. Definitely try different configuration so you can compare 😊

Hi, What plastic nucs were you using at the start of the video? Thanks
@ThatBeeMan2 ай бұрын
Hi Gwenyn. Thanks for watching! Those are ProNucs. They are made by Bee-Pros bee-pros.com/ and can be found at most bee supply outlets in North America. I'll soon be putting up a video that talks about their features.

I'm a beginner but I believe that in our neck of the woods a double is better if if full of bee's I'm from the upper peninsula of Michigan and my nephew got me started he never even covered them I'm learning on my own so if I'm wrong please let me know

My opinion is a deep and a med. I use two deeps because I dont have Med. I may buy some just for brood box. My lows in winter are -20F.
@laurawiens66692 ай бұрын
2 mediums for brood works really well for MB winters.
@kathyhathaway88232 ай бұрын
Just a side note I have always always ran a deep an a medium brood setup BUT I do not like using that medium. I run into things quite often where I wish I had double deep or just a single deep. It just causes problems ever now an then when needing to switch frames around . Yes for my age an health the med. does come in handy also . So the answers are . I do not know which way to go on that part . Now on over winter in singles or deep I think if it was me I think I would try say maybe a dozen of each but . I have watched Ian for quite a few years an it looks like at times he runs really really close in stores in singles but that is inside an I would guess it would not be a lot different outside or maybe they may use a little more food if they get a little fly time being outside . I am not a lot of help I just like to give my two cents worth. Thanks again

You mention zombies several times, what are you talking about?
@ThatBeeMan2 ай бұрын
Zombies are just resource nucs. They are usually made up of queens that aren't producing as well as I need but are still laying. Those resources are used for nucs and queen rearing cell builders. They would otherwise be pinched so the term Zombie was coined as they are more or less the walking dead. Thanks for watching.
