Hi April. When I lived in Bozeman, I found the fish on the Madison hard to catch. Rented a wet suit, mask, fins and a snorkel. Floated about 5 miles in the river, trying to find out what they were eating and how they behaved. Learned a few things: More fish hold in front of a rock than behind, fish play together, and LOTS of animals die in the river (bones everywhere).

The Madison is one of my favorite rivers, especially the section around 3 Dollar Bridge. Plus add Stillwater fishing in Hebgen, oh hell yeah! And there are a lot of big fishing egos in Montana. Love listening to an "expert" of 5 or 10 years spouting off with the Latin names of bugs.

We implemented Hoot Owl in Alberta the last couple of years too, on our southern mountain and foothill trout streams. Everyone loses their minds over it, but it saves on my fuel bill for a few weeks. 😁

outfitting on the rivers is out of control, its ridiculous.....commercial use particularily on the Madison and Yellowstone is making it unfair for locals....sure we know plenty of other places to go but why should recreational in state license holders be put in second place....BS

Poor baby. Only 400 miles of blue ribbon trout streams in MT. How awful for you. Do your best and soldier on, champ.
@davidgray33217 ай бұрын
The guide didn’t wet his hands before handling that stream fish, to do so burns the protective slime off them and exposes the fish to disease. I would not employ a “guide” like that. Lay off the beer and learn to be professional please.

Man, you could not be more accurate. Of course, we need to remember that flyfishing and guiding is THE most ego-driven pastime in this area. Glad I was already "old" at it (started in the 1950's) before it became about your rod, your sunglasses, and how many articulations there are in your streamer. (and who you called by their first name, even if they didn't know who the hell you are/were.)
