It’s normal if they don’t click right away. He’s a puppy he’s probably barking because he wants to play with devin. If anything you should let them rlly get to know eachother even if they fight a little so devin can establish that it’s his home or whatever. I feel like it’ll be fine and they’ll become friends!!! He’s so cute btw🥺

When I first adopted my dog, he always tried to attack the floor mirror I had. I got into the habit of putting his fav toys in front of the mirror and he eventually would play with the toys and reflection because he thought it was another dog playing with him. As he got older, he figured out it was himself in the mirror 😂

Hey Lisa whenever you introduced Barney to Devin did you bring him on a leash and introduce them by like petting him and devin at the same time and comforting them both ? I recently got a kitten and I have a German Shepherd and once I did that for like 5-7 days they got way better! Give it time anytime you adopt a rescue it takes time those animals have been through a lot. He’s calm with his brother because they likely grew up in the same environment together

yes he was on a leash! i did it exactly how i was told by the adoption center but wasn’t able to let them even sniff each other without barney almost biting dev :/ i feel like everything is just 10x harder bc i have other unplanned things on my plate besides him

Lisa Onuoha it’s okay! It definitely takes time and a lot of behavioral correction when you take on a rescue especially since he’s a puppy also. Whenever he gets aggressive be sure to correct it at that time with stuff like “no “ or “bad boy” while frowning to show disappointment. Treats are you best friend also!💕 it’ll all get better I promise!!! I hope your mom gets to feeling better soon !

with a new dog, especially a rescued dog the most you need is patience and LOVE! It will definitely take a while till both your dogs get along but eventually it will work out! obviously you are young and this is a stressful situation, but you have responsibility for this little puppy. I hope everything turns out good :)

From my perspective you cannot “fix” a dog’s behavior. He is just a puppy so just try to get him to trust you and then you will be able to trust him. Just breathe, being a “dog mum” is hard but you will be amazed by the things you will gain!! Best of luck..

He’s definitely just being a puppy. I just got mine a year ago and it’s been a journey, but number one tip is to carry treats with you EVERYWHERE. Especially if he’s playing with Devin, make sure you have Devin frequently give him treats when he’s walking past him or if your puppy interacts with him in any small way so that he associates positive things every time he sees Devin. Also introduce him to everything (skateboards, car rides, elevators, dogs, children)!!!! Help him to have positive experiences everywhere he goes and with everything he interacts with!!

Hi Lisa! I had a similar situation when we adopted our third dog. I remember having a project at school, while my mom was with my grandpa in the hospital, and the dog wasn’t used to the food so I had to take him on a walk like 10 times a day. It can be very stressful but don’t give up just yet:) my advice is to treat them as a pack and take them on walks together. Wish you and your mom the best😘

Hey, een hond is pas na 3 maanden zichzelf in een nieuwe omgeving. Wij hebben dit ook gehad eerst leek onze hond van 1,5 een schatje en ineens werd het een monster en nu werken we eraan om hem goed te trainen (hij komt uit het buitenland en heeft nooit grenzen gehad en een goeie leider waardoor hij vreselijk dominant werd) als je echt een hele professionele hulp wilt raad ik echt annemiek winters aan! Maar hij zal vooral tijd nodig hebben en wat heel belangrijk is is dat devin (?) boven aan blijft staan dit is voor honden heel belangrijk omdat hij er eerder was en hoger in de rang staat als de nieuwe pup. Ook als je een nieuwe hond neemt is het het handigst als je ze laat ontmoeten op een andere plek bvb buiten dat je met ze gaat wandelen en dan het huis in gaat zodat ze ook niet dominant kunnen doen over hun eigen territorium. Veder echt goed van je dat je een hond adopteerde!🥰❤️

Hey girl! So this year i took my dog Skeeter on vacation to see my family. I was very nervous because my sister does have a dog as well, Max. Skeeter already does not do very well with strangers, he tends to bark the whole time we have guests over and tries to bite as well. Anyways he did well meeting my family but when it came to meeting Max that was a different story. (also i drove 12 hours to visit because i was going to be there for a month and other reasons) Skeeter my dog bit Max twice and caused him to bleed. I was super frustrated because i thought i was going to have to drive all the way back home to drop him off, but we kept trying. we walked both of them together which seemed to help a bit, we had to scold Skeeter whenever he tried to growl/snarl at Max and petted Max instead of Skeeter which helped as well, but what really helped was letting them lose outside in a fenced in area. its a neutral space that does not "belong" to either of the dogs therefor they wont feel the need to be on guard. after we let them lose outside they became best of buds in only 4 days. every dog is different but just do more research and try not to keep them too separated because they will sense that something is wrong and them not getting along will continue to be a problem. also highly suggest keeping the crate near your other dogs bed. Skeeter is also crate trained and when we were at my parents house we kept his crate right by Maxs so he could get use to having him around. like i said keeping them separated will only cause them to be on their guard more. I have two dogs - cane corso and labrador females. When we brought cane corso (she was 4 months) our labrador (that was 5 years old at a time) didn’t accept her at all. She didn’t even wanna cuddle with us at the same time when cane corso was there. I think they bonded when we were playing with them together, throwing the ball, running... Whatever Devin loves to do for fun, include Barney in that activity. They need to spend time together to accept each other, feed them together and whenever you are around keep them in the same room. Have patience, they feel your energy, dogs need loving owner with authority. Sometimes you might feel like you don’t know what to do and nothing works and that’s normal. You just need to be persistent and it will work out I promise. Three weeks are long period of time for dogs and a huge progress can be made. 🙂 Good luck girl, I hope everything will work out well. Hey Lisa! I just wanted to mention that I grew up with dogs and I currently have a dog and a cat. It’s completely normal that Devin and Barney don’t get along at the beginning. Definitely give him some time and look up videos online for how to get 2 dogs to get along. I would say give him at least 2 weeks before making the decision of giving him back (except if you really don’t feel it ofc). My puppy Winnie took 1 month to fully adapt to his new home. Hope this helps ☺️💕

Hey girl! You should really watch estée lalondes Videos if you haven’t already. It shows how difficult but regarding it can be to adopt a dog. Her dog Effie was so scared and took months to warm up. But the girl didn’t give up you know? She knew whatever it takes she is hers now. Adopting a dog is about commitment. Not trying to offend you or make you feel bad but maybe you need to change your perspective. to be honest I kinda felt like you really weren’t in the right mindset for this from the beginning. Just my feeling though. You said you have so much going on right now, already working kinda full time and on tops starting to study soon.. maybe that’s why you stress yourself out that it needs to work out so soon or else you give him away? Totally get it’s stressful and aggression is difficult but he can feel he’s an option for you I think and he was locked away all his life. You should stay with him during these first weeks and COMFORT him. Go up to him and show him you’re interested, pet him gently or just lie next to him.. and don’t give up .. let him walk around freely in your room, at least when you’re there. How is he supposed to come to you and check you out or get closer and gain trust if he’s in his crate most of the time? Maybe he’s in such a defense / aggression mode with devin because he just feels so unsafe? I could totally understand that. Either way he deserves to be ones priority for once. Hope it’s ok I’m giving my honest opinion but I think it’s important to bring up and maybe you even want to take what I said into consideration. :) XO

ur definitely right about why i’m stressed out but regarding the other stuff i do this with him already! he’s really good with me and other people, that has not been the issue. the only thing thats an issue is how he is with my other dog like i mentioned. besides that he’s really good and i only keep him in his crate when i really need to get work done and can’t have him out.

I had two female German shepherds a while back and when they first met they were very aggressive towards each other, they got into many dog fights and scarred each other(the damage wouldn’t be NEARLY as bad as if devan and Barney were to get into it)we ended up getting a dog trainer to help them get along and it helped them a lot. If I were u I wouldn’t worry too much. 😘

Some puppies and kitties can be really hard for the first few monthsss especially if you have a lot going on yourself, but it will get better! They start to adapt to you as you adapt to them and their personality. Hope it works out if you decide to keep him. Must’ve been a bit weird to adopt a pet you didn’t get a chance to meet first.

Try bringing Devon into your room when Barney is in his crate? Maybe they will get used to each other if they are constantly in the same room? I think he's just acting out of instinct since it's a new environment. It's going to take patience
