Just wanted to say I know exactly how you feel regarding 'events'. My son is 5 and autistic (non verbal) and currently in mainstream reception. It seems like a string of endless events, world book day, red nose day, Christmas nativity, school trips....all of which he can't participate in. But on the flip side, he's none the wiser and it clearly bothers me more than it does him lol. He is happy and that's all that matters ❤

I’m in the exact same position as you regarding your son, the way you describe him it’s like you’re talking about mine. He’s in reception at mainstream school but unfortunately it’s not working very well for him so we’ve got the ball rolling for extra support which might mean a school change. Been crying all week even though it’s positive he’s getting help! It’s nice knowing I’m not alone, thank you for talking about it, helps more than you know 💗

Hi Mary, I work with children with additional needs (Psychologist) and read a piece of research once about parents of children with additional needs going through multiple ‘grief cycles’ throughout their lives and the impact that can have. And just like grief it can hit you out of nowhere/ during seemingly ‘random’ times. So give yourself grace, you and Gabe are doing amazingly ❤️

Once my oldest had a bad ingury, he fell down at home on the laminated floors and got a scull fracture, it was a very snowy days and all the kids were in the park playing and going down with sleights and i was thinking how he's missing out being at the hospital. It's so visceral... It's being a Mom You are the best Mom for your boys! They are so lucky to have you always there in their corner. ❤

As a designer handbag over designer shoes girlie here are my (bias!) thoughts about your "from you to you" birthday gift - Handbags last for absolutely ever, and unlike shoes, can look amazing with wear - You may be able to find some alternative colours and leathers of the "new" Puzzle Edge bag on multi brand online stores (NAP, mytheresa, etc.) - I can vouch for the quality of Loewe leather - I often look into other designer bags of a similar price range to confirm if it's "the bag" for the price (which usually doesn't sway me, but confirms my decision)! Sending you lots of strength, especially for days that are upsetting when raising a beautiful neurodiverse little human xx

Decide which colour and style of Loewe you want and maybe consider a preloved one from Vestiaire/Depop/Vinted etc.? It can be easy to get wrapped up in consumerism and want a new and shiny thing, but if it is not the exact colour you want then you may regret it a bit down the line. I am sure you will make a very considered decision no matter what.❤

If it's a bag that you will use almost daily, then I would say get it especially if it's not going to be a total drag on expenses. But if it's going to be something that you use only sparingly, then I would think twice. But as luxury goods prices are increasing steadily, I would buy it soon rather than later. I am getting one of my family members a set in luxury jewellery line (ring, chain, bracelet and earrings) and I have been buying a piece every few months and storing them away to give on the Christmas holidays for the next few years. I have already noticed that the prices have been increasing just within two years but I'm almost finished. Just one more piece to get.

You should still dress him up! No reason not to 😊 lots of non-verbal autistic people understand a lot more than you would think. Hopefully one day you'll find a way to communicate with your gorgeous son ❤ my partner is autistic and pretty sure he was a late talker. He was only diagnosed at 43. He is extremely successful, runs his own business and is basically a genius. Struggles with relational stuff and some of the other usual level 1 asd challenges, BUT he is amazing. Is your son level 2 or have they not done that type of assessment yet? I know he's still really young. Maybe it will also help to think of it as a disability which is what it actually is, rather than just addional/special needs? Curious whether you or your partner have looked into being neurodivergent since it has a genetic component? Sending hugs.

That's what I was thinking, he can still dress up in a costume, he doesn't have to acknowledge why, he is still young. Just have the associated book character for him to play with at home. He may even want to take his book to school.

I appreciate this comment is coming from a good place and I Thankyou for taking the time to write it but I just have to voice that it reads a little intrusive. Please bear in mind I share what I’m comfortable sharing & even that’s a very minimal amount of what we deal with day to day. I can assure you we know our son better than anyone, we’re confident in his level of understanding and when it comes it navigating these kind of events we’re still learning what works for us and for Gabe & taking things at our own pace.
