It wasn't John McLaughlin I saw at Band on the Wall, it was Alan Holdsworth (easy to mix them up). I saw McLaughlin last year in Oslo, playing with the great Gary Husband. And the national treasure who used to pay with Wild Willy Barrett was (of course) John Otway.
