So happy to see more women taking up hiking yaay to women trekking. Quick tip ... Carry lemons they are so useful up there (hot lemon water or lemon strong tea) and now that hate cold a hot water bottle (the rubber one ) comes in handy at night..

Mount Kenya is an experience that humbles you and get you thinking of how lucky we are to have all these innovations like electricity, beds etc. I went in 2016 October. Very humbling. But dope too. I did not make it to lenana but I made it halfway the summit. Alafu you are very lucky, the smaller you are the easier the environment is. Utakua sawa.

I feel you on the hiking gear prices. The trick is to accumulate the gear slowly, as you hike the small mountains (assuming you are prepping for Kenya by hiking smaller hills to build endurance). Tembo has good stuff, they also own a hiking group. Also Kangemi and kawangware market has really, really good hiking boots (second hand recognized brands) and veeeeery cheap.

Hey....i like the hicking and congratulations on the Mt Kenya hicking dare. I did that 2016 and I enjoyed it (liked to meditate) .... Other than the cold!. One thing I saw that is a NO NO NO!!! Nuts. When you are hicking nuts are not advisable because they don't digest fast and you need snacks like chocolate, sweets and mush mellows..... NOT Nuts. Sorry I am writing in caps but I hope you see this before hike. Anything with nuts is not advised. Please avoid. I know you will make it.... Keep a positive mind and enjoy the hike! Trust me you will be different person when you summit and a new you. The mountain does things to you.

When you live abroad esp in Europe, you appreciate our high quality 2nd hand gikomba staff. I can't believe you get such quality staff for such cheap prices and not just quality but famous brands! Mount Longonot's climate is hot just a short a walking stick and maybe a reusable water bottle but at the top it's kinda foggy so it tends to be cold a jacket would be great I guess but it also depends with the season you plan on hiking
