wow, you’re doing the exact course and majors i’m thinking of doing at melbourne next year! i was just wondering if you think there are benefits of doing media and communications at unimelb compared to other uni’s such as rmit that guarantee work placement. do you like your course and overall what’s it like, do you have any comments? i’m sorry for being so vague but i’m just really torn between those exact subjects and similar courses at other universities. thanks, and good luck with your studies and future endeavours!

So sorry for the extremely late reply, but hmmm I think it depends on what you're after! Rmit's media and com is a lot more practical, I have a few friends who did a similar course to mine at Rmit and their subjects were so much more practical. I find that melbourne uni's media and com subjects are heavier in theory!

i did media & communications at melbourne and HATED IT was so theoretical. my friend does it at rmit & loves it. they literally made a brief for ANZ as an assessment in one of their classes and showed it an actual ANZ official

Melbourne it's not about studying one area of your study, you are compulsory to take on many areas of study within Arts degree and at least four subjects outside Arts. And you will not learn a lot in Bachelor and force to take the master degree (some subjects in third year will tell you how big this study area is and not taking masters will make you like you know nothing), the study load is huge (study less subjects and more materials) and most students are extremely talent, teachers are really good as well.

3 years of study in other universities is worth around 2 years of study in Melbourne. Or four years equal to three years.

Georgia LaChance ah I wouldn't worry too much! I'm in Gr12 at the moment, and assuming you're Australian, I'm pretty sure you'll have information booklets and talks all about it. If you're still worried though, maybe go to some open days of universities you're interested or if your city has one, a tertiary expo where all the universities etc gather, to find out some more information. You're only in Gr10 though so theres still plenty of time (:

I find uni easier than high school so don’t don’t worry x if ur from Aus you’ll be given info and talked to about it and they should help you apply too if you need the help but if ur worried later down the track go to some uni open days

Education is the most important thing in your life and it will define what your life will be like, you need to know what kind of life you want to live in when you are 30 (probably too early), and my advise is get into the best University possible and I do highly recommend Melbourne (University of Melbourne) or the best University in your state, and choose the best degree possible and something you like.

yes we commute an hour even two sometimes depending on where you live. on campus accommodation is a lot more money and seperate from fees, and there’s no culture of college living like america.

Harsh Bhangu I'm a computing student in the University of Melbourne (just finished my second year, but I have done two third year subjects already). Depends on what you have studied in your Bachelor degree, if you are a computer science student, take Masters of Software Engineering or Masters of Computer Science depends on you like practical or theoretical. Master of IT is the easiest but I'm not too sure what they study, I see them all the time in my second year and third year subjects so they can't be doing anything hard (probably a bachelor degree with a masters name sticking on it). It really depends on what you want to study, Computer Science is harder to get in for local students and only computing graduates can get in that master degree. (maybe worth more?) I do enjoy my studying here, students are great, most teachers are awesome except one.
