In my impression, foreigners in Shanghai can apply for a library card at the Shanghai Library with their passport. Maybe you can try borrowing books from the Shanghai Library. They should have a wide collection of English books.@@ExpatNatt

Hi! I hope you don't mind if I ask. How's the weather during the last week of December up to the first week of January? Our family intends to celebrate the New Year by visiting Beijing and Shanghai. Thank you in advanced. :)

It is quite cold in Shanghai around that time. Below 0 degrees usually but it doesn’t really snow. The humidity gives the city a very cold wind chill and the city doesn’t have the same vibrant colours as it does in summer but personally I love Shanghai no matter which season (although winter is my least favourite). Usually February feels like the coldest month.
