I started to learn quilting many years ago. We did the block step pattern first. Then I was making a cushion in pale gold silk. It was a hand drawn scroll pattern that I had to draw (trace) on it then it was hand stitched through the layers of wadding. It was coming along so well and I kept it in a storage box with no lid. We had two gorgeous boy kittens who found it the softest most comfortable litter tray they had ever used !!!! So that went into the bin and was the end of my short lived attempt at quilting 😂

Oh no Sheila I'm sorry but I have had a giggle - similar to that I once knitted a bat-wing jumper in pink mohair my dog at the time found is and chewed a huge hole right in the middle of one 'wing' - my mum repaired it for me but it was never the same! 🥰xx

Lovely top, well done You should quickly make another cozy top always good to build confidence There is a quarter inch foot for quilting you may have one with your machine otherwise you can buy them not expensive Really helps for quilting straight seams Happy sewing 👗 ✂️ 🪡 🧵 💓

Sorry, forgot to mention I live in Wardley, not far from you, I used to do quilting a few years ago and went to a class at Winlaton Community Centre, it was on a night time though, I have no idea if it is still going. Life took over and I stopped quilting and I’ve just recently started dressmaking. ❤❤

Ah I know Wardley my Aunt (the one who lived at Hexham was in a care home (Wardley Gate?) at Christmas 2019 as she had had a fall early December and went there for a bit of respite care. We decided it would be better for her to stay there until the Spring of 2020 as she lived up a huge hill in Hexham and we didn't want her falling again on ice etc. Then of course Covid hit she didn't get 'released' into the wild until July!!! Mind you she was lucky as she got Covid in the home and just slept through it. She ended up there as my Dad was at that time in Covent house in Birtley.🥰xx

@ Hi Karen, Wardley Gate is very near us we are just over the bridge and down beside Pelaw Metro, many years ago it was the Black Bull pub. Probably the best thing for your Aunt to sleep through Covid, before being released into the wild (love that 🤣🤣🤣). ❤️❤️

Full disclosure, not a quilter but I watch so many quilting channels I think I've absorbed info by osmosis. I'd love to quilt but my cutting is not very accurate anymore! Love your top, by the way. Great colour.

Thanks for showing cutting out, pattern weight, no pins and rotary cutter, no scissors, better for accuracy? Really enjoying Vlogmas.
@karensewsslowly8 күн бұрын
Mary I am a decide on the spur of the moment - sometimes it's scissors and sometimes rotary, sometimes pins etc - it depends if I'm feeling traditional-type sewer. Rotary is definitely better for stretchy fabrics and it's neater for me as when I use scissors it does look like I've used my Grans false teeth! 🥰xx

Lovely top Karen. Accuracy is the key to patchwork. Mind you nobody examines your work except you. A little tip re the bath, I suffered with hip pain for a long time ( two replacements now), turn over onto all 4s and get up that way. It’s a game changer. I hope you don’t have the bug…I’m currently in bed with it.
@karensewsslowly8 күн бұрын
Ah Maz I am sorry your not well - hopefully you'll be OK for Christmas though. I used to he 'all 4s' thing when was preggers until the day I did get stuck as I was wider front to back as I was side to side. I did manage heave myself out thankfully before the fire brigade had to be called!! 🤭🥰xx

Hi Karen, please don’t put pressure on yourself to respond to us all. I’m sure we don’t expect you to, especially as you’re vlogging everyday. Your Freya is lovely. I must get one made as I do have the stretch book by Tilly. Take care of yourself. ❤

Your top is lovely Karen well done You sure make my day “ Thinking Like a Sewist” I need to do that and “ Not speaking to your machine “ Really enjoying your Vlogmass I’ve spent 2 hrs this afternoon putting on Bias Binding unpicked 3 times to get it stitched evenly ( trying to be perfect ) but I thought of you and persevered sewing slowly ha ha❤

@ Thanks Karen will check her out 👍I finished my dress only to feel it was a bit wide and long so unpicked the frill ,side seams, pockets etc and will start again probably tack it all before I cut it Luckily I don’t have to take out the neck or sleeves It’s a pain but would bother me leaving it and will be lovely to wear when I get it right ❤️
