Yeah I felt the same way. I was like really, it’s not the end of world. I even went to can do. I picked some bits up. I got out our emergency kit just incase.

I don’t know if your stove is like western gas stoves, but ours worked fine when power went out- the electric starter won’t work, but you can use a lighter or match to ignite the gas. They really wiped out the stores- looks like here right before a big snowstorm. Milk, bread, water and TP (toilet paper) are first to sell out.

I didn’t even think about toilet paper until you just mentioned it!!! Also maybe our stove would work with a started then!!! I’m not sure how the gas company does stuff here

There is a cute word in german for stocking up on supplies at home ( for emergencies or the holidays xD ), it's called "Hamsterkäufe" lt. translation: "Hamster purchases" ... that just came to my mind and I wanted to let it out :D

This kind of situation is what got me into “prepping”. Every week I spend a certain amount of money stocking up on things like food, water, medical supplies, toilet paper, etc. I have at least 3-4 months worth of food in my house right now in case of an emergency. Eventually I hope to have a year’s worth, although in my small apartment most of it will be stuffed under beds and couches. 😂 Some people probably think I’m crazy, but if something bad happens in my area, the ones who didn’t prepare will be the crazy ones. 😄

That's basically what the shelves in Kentucky look like when they forecast snow LOL! I'm not even kidding...I lived in Louisville, KY for a year (during my 1 year Ph.D. program stint) and people panic panic panic panic and buy water, bread, milk, everything, when they hear about snow. It's actually hilarious. Anyway, unfortunate about typhoons in Japan & how devastating they are; kind of like tornadoes in the South I imagine. Our local super markets still had stock but were crazy busy leading up to the typhoon arriving. We’re weren’t hit as hard here but My heart goes out to all those family who have been effected, I can’t even imagine what they must be going through 😢

After a hurricane here ( Juan) I had a little propane camping thing, it screwed onto the top of small propane canisters and it worked great, dragged it everywhere we went in my backpack. I got my son one as a gift and after the hurricane a couple of weeks ago he said it worked great for them too, the canisters are easy to store because they aren’t that big and the top part is small too so doesn’t take up much space. Most people here use their propane barbecues , the fresh food is only safe for a couple a days and that’s if you rarely open the fridge door. You can probably call the gas company now to find out if you can light your stove with a lighter, some can and some can’t. Anything that is run with a computer involved usually doesn’t work. Nagano really got it bad, I feel so sad for all the people who lost homes or were flooded out. 😢. Glad you are safe.

I went to Lopia on Monday and they were fully back in stock but I also went to OK market and they still had some empty areas on the shelves. That was a lot of Oden. You will have to have an Oden party with all that you cooked up.

Wow the shelves look like they do here in Florida whenever we have a hurricane coming. A tip for the future try to keep some empty water bottles around so you can fill them up with water and have more in case your water gets turned off and gotta be able to bathe and whatnot. Power going out where I live in Florida is pretty common even with just a heavy storm so we always keep spare batteries for flashlights and have empty water jugs. Now the only thing we're missing is a portable stove but we do have a grill but not like my mom and I know how to work it lol.

I think we got our stove at Walmart for like 50 bucks. The longest we were ever without power was 5 days during a snowstorm!! My family could use an emergency kit, too!! You can never be too prepared :) :)

We get ice storms every winter in my part of the US and it's always expected to lose power; sometimes it takes WEEKS for them to get people's electricity back. First things to sell out in the store? Bread and milk. ??????? I've never understood it. It'll go bad so fast lol

I once lived in a place where we were advised to stock up when the monsoon season was predicted to be extreme. The authorities have to be cautious of course but supply lines were restored within a week. It took ages to get rid of all the stocks we bought. And why did we buy all that pepper?

T T I keep 3-4 months worth of food and water on hand at all times. I never hurts to be prepared, because you never know what can happen. As long as it’s non-perishable, most food will last several months or even years, so never feel bad for having extra. You may need it!

A freezer can keep stuff frozen for 2-3 days if it’s not opened often and it’s FULL. If your freezer isn’t stuffed full, fill empty water bottles 3/4 full of water and put them into any empty spaces. This will accomplish two things: (1) the ice will keep the stuff in the freezer cold longer in a power outage and (2) you’ll have some backup water to drink after it melts if you need it. 😊
