I grew up listening to his show on the radio in the '40's. I miss him.

What a lovely guy he was. I was 11 when he died but I do remember him on TV.

He was indeed a lovely, quietly generous man by all accounts. His friends got a chuckle out of him when they went out to eat. Whatever he was having, he would unfailingly say, "This is the best _______ I've ever had!" His appreciation of life was delightful and contagious.

A master. He appears to be speaking off the cuff, but is rehearsed to every pause, aside and raised eyebrow. Thank you for sharing.

reminds me of Stewart Lee and Daniel Kitson, who both also make carefully written material look improvised

For those new(er) to Jack Benny. He was a very good violinist- it takes real skill to intentionally play the wrong notes to make people laugh/groan at the same time. In short, everything he played/portrayed was the opposite of his true self- extremely generous (portrayed incredibly, absurdly cheap) and believed in sharing the good and fortunate events of his life. Just an incredible human being...

I'm here because I heard his minimal comedic laughter gestures are minimal. So I'm watching him keep his arms crossed or in his pocket. He is very intentional and adorable. Off to see Victor Borge sound out punctuation marks as he reads!

All the great American comics were: Groucho Marx, Burns & Allen, Jack...that's it. Just them. :)

I was born in 1969 and have always been a fan of standup and I'd never heard of him just saw Neil Gaiman answering a question about him and looked him up

British comedian Alfred Hill admired Jack so much that he used his last name for a stage name -- Benny Hill.

@@pgh45rpms Oh. I didn't know that. That's a great compliment.
