Oh. I changed the title after I got my copy of the 300D. Didn't realize I never mentioned it on the description/comment. I own a 300D and yes they work, the soonwell and rolux anyways. I've used them several times with the 300D but did not time how long they last it's really not that long actually haha (at 100%).

Yeah.. I mean if you can avoid using max-power it's really not that bad, I wanna say they last one hour at max... But my tests showed that the capacities are pretty accurate on these batteries, so even really expensive ones with the same capacity will last about the same you know? I intend to do a follow up at some point to see if the capacities have significantly decreased after using them for a while

Considering that some batteries turn their FETs off in protection of the cells while the others don't could mean that they stress the cells more. The gas gauge inside the packs is set to a maximum output current. Go over that and it just cuts off the FETs to the outside world. Either wait long enough or remove the overcurrent condition and the gas gauge will turn the FETs on again. Besides a software-setting to make the battery more expensive, it's also protection. Not every cell or PCB can handle high output currents. Higher overcurrent settings make the batteries usefull for high-drain applications, making the pack more expensive, while it's the same battery when cheaper, but then just set with a lower maximum current.

I like it, but it's not perfect: The on light burnt out. So I don't know when it's on or not, just gotta plug something in and see if it works, which is annoying. The included charger almost immediately broke, (if you have a dtap charger doesn't matter, I replaced mine and sometimes use it to charge batteries which is neat). And the V mount connectors are held in with 4 screws, I did not notice this until this week actually but two are missing and the other two were really loose. Other than that it works great. With that said haven't used it as much now that I have the URSA, and the Sony is reserved for when I want a lightweight set up, so not this haha

You can find which batteries are good by using them continuously at max. power to the end specially for lightings. Then poor batteries will be distorted inside by heat, or power will be cut by heat inside. Although it is working one time, if you use it again and again, their inside will be distorted or cells will be damaged and it will affect the life time.

Whats the battery capacity? Idx is high quality but tends to only have lower capacity batteries. A perfect example of how capacity is not related to output. They can power it, but because their capacity is really small they drain really quickly
@weeardguy2 жыл бұрын
@@NeverlandProductions IDX does not have lower capacity batteries in general. You can perfectly buy 240 Wh batteries from them. It's just that the bigger brands usually tend to err more on the cautious side when it comes to their maximum output ratings. A 90-98Wh battery usually does NOT accept more than 4,4 to 6 Amps of total output current. Go over it and it will just turn of the FETs inside. 150 Wh batteries usually go up to 8 amps or so, where 200 to 240 wh batteries usually go up to 12 Amps. It's all about batterylife: a 90-98 Wh will need cells that are able to be discharged at 1 to 2 times their rated capacity. This not only will make them heat up more, but also drain them really fast and not meet their rated capacity. Cell-type is a trade-off between price and capacity and thus how long they last. I recelled my V-mounts with NCR18650B's. I nearly doubled the capacity when you look at the numbers, but in reality, it's probably just 75% more capacity, as the cells inside are not as able to withstand high-current discharges (they are specced at a 2C max discharge rate, where the original cells (UR18650A/18650SW by Sanyo/Panasonic) could handle something like 8C discharge (about 16 Amp per cell). In the original configuration, you could power anything you like without seeing much voltage drop, by now, powering my camera (about 1,6 Amps) and turning on an external monitor (Blackmagic Video Assist 5 inch (first generation)) draws another 1,5 Amps or so: the voltage in the viewfinder drops a tenth of a Volt as soon as it is turned on. But that's okay for me: it will still power everything for 6 hours straight or so. I was all about trying to see if I could recell them myself, and that was a nice adventure.

I guess you're lying about the rolux. Did you actually run it for 2 hours? After watching this video I bought 2 v-mount batteries with 14,8V/15Ah output. Each of those batteries I tested on one of my 120d's. The transistors of both 120d controller boxes were burned through and destroyed after 10 minutes. Both 120d lights not functional anymore. Probably even the warranty will be void due to missuse. I see the rolux has a even higher current of 15.5Ah. The 120d runs on 9Ah, the input says 10Ah. The rolux has 5.5Ah more than recommended. So, how the fuck would you run the 120d for 2 hours on this battery without putting your house on fire?
@NeverlandProductions7 жыл бұрын
A couple of things: Ah is not the same as max Amps, I actually try to explain that in the video, Ah measures the battreries capacity. Second, Max Amps is not the same as amps drawn, max amps means that the battery is able to output that power if necessary not that it will the whole time (otherwise battery life would be the same regardless of task, and/or you wouldn't be able to dim lights, these batteries would kill all cameras etc etc). Voltage, however, does contribute to the power being drawn by the device, in this case, the battery controllers. So one of two things happened: A, you actually have two defective units, which yeah seems unlikely. OR B. Your batteries are outputting a higher voltage, you could test that with a multimeter, that's what I'd do, make sure they're within 14-15V range, if they are I would contact aperture about it. As far as the batteries I recommended, I've used them several times now all the way through at all sorts of outputs and even on the 300D. I like them I know you're probably mad at me (unjustly so) but I'm actually quite interested to hear how this turns out if you would'nt mind sharing. If the batteries are the problem I'd like to add a warning to others not to use that specific brand. Best of luck
@technotron10146 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Amperage is completely dependent on the load drawn. If you have a 10A socket in your house with nothing plugged into it, does it shoot 10A of power out of the wall into the air? No. If you plug a small light bulb in, it will draw the power required for the light bulb. If you plug a big light bulb in, that pulls 10A, it will deliver. Simple electronic principles.
@jennyluvsfood6 жыл бұрын
oh no
@weeardguy2 жыл бұрын
@@NeverlandProductions Darn, if you have to make sure your batteries are within a certain voltage range, the product they need to power is not suited for V-mount application. Standard V-mount voltages range from 12 Volt (fully depleted) to 16,8 Volt (fully charged). I know there are lights out there that go all the way down to 10,8 Volt, but consider your V-mounts dead if you drain them to that point. You are then well below the 3 Volt threshold that is still considered a safe fully-discharged state, even though many manufacturers now state their cells to be fully depleted at 2,75 Volt or even 2,5 Volt.

I like to think that when people want to make videos "I have a train to catch" style (which I hate but young people seem to think it makes them look "modern"), at least they should have good diction and decent memory. Otherwise you end up having cuts not on every sentence but, almost every word. One should be at least able to complete sentences or ideas before cutting the shot. And then talking too fast for your own diction, is a no-no. Other than that, thanks for the info presented on this video. It has value.

Lol, what a fail. That 10A on the DTap OUTPUT on the light means you can run up to 10A on it. That does NOT mean the light needs 10A
@NeverlandProductions4 жыл бұрын
More or less. I didn't know at the time but it's more so a rating. As in, you shouldn't use more than 10A on a DTap port. Yeah it's not technically accurate, it's an old video due for an update but it's also inconsequential. The light uses about 120w and so, worth a 14.7 V V mount - that's about 8.2 Amps. So yes, the light does "NOT" need 10A, it just needs 82% of that. The juice box still falsely advertised up to 10A and failed to deliver while the other batteries didn't. Btw just like you can charge a V mount through the Dtap (as an input) you can power lights through the Dtap too. So no, it's not just an "OUTPUT"...
