Some Things that I love and hate about Visual Kei~

I agree with you on these points. I definitely hate all the drama on tanuki and also how some people act around foreigners at lives. But there is also a lot of stuff to love about vk too. Like the variety of sounds, the fashion, the pure creativity. I kind of navigated through the scene with blinders on and I avoided the drama pretty well. I suppose it's up to the individual to decide what they want to enjoy in the scene.

I really hate the negativity of fans. Why does everyone keep bringing up Gackt and Yoshiki? We get it. This community can be so toxic urghhhhhhh. But of course there are so many sweet fans. Also it killlls me that I can’t get merch or chekis. It’s so hard. That shipping from Japan fee ain’t a joke.

after seeing some videos from fans of visual kei I have come to the conclusion that everyone likes to dress as their favourite band I feel like I'm the only one that doesn't like being dressed up like that even though I am a fan of visual kei💀💀 also love your videos~ a fan from Greece

Nice video. I've been an on/off fan of visual kei/j-rock for about 25 years now (I'm 40, so you can figure when I got into it). Over the years I've always just focused on the music and enjoyed what sounded good to my ears. I think if you focus on the behind the scene drama (and other fan opinions/views) and such it kinda takes something away from the music. I enjoy, A LOT, of different music, and I've occasionally dug deep into the drama/politics/etc. of those genres and it really tends to annoy me. For some reason though, I just never cared about all that stuff when it came to VK/J-rock. So, in a way, VK has always remained really pure to me, even though, like any genre of music it comes with its own brand of drama. I guess my point being, fuck other people, and just love what you love. I will agree though, the expensive imports really hurt my wallet, but I love all the CDs once I get my hands on it. I just ordered this Lynch. box set a few moments ago. Really expensive, but I know I'll adore it once its in my hands (and stereo). BTW, I think you're hair/make-up look great! I tried a VK look about 10-11 years ago, but I couldn't pull it off at all, haha. So, I'm just a pretty normal guy with long hair now, haha.

This. I used to be a little more invested in the behind the scenes drama, but I'm about to turn 30 and now I only listen to whatever sounds good to my ears. A lot of what I like to listen too just happens to be visual lei.

everything i've learned about tanuki i've learned against my will, honestly. i don't want to sound pretentious or judgemental, but i really, really don't understand why people would go to such extreme lengths for a chance to sleep with some band member. well, more precisely, i don't have any issues with that, more with these particular people who brag about having sex with vkei musicians, doesn't matter if it was real or imaginary, spread stupid rumours and act extremely misogynistic, abusive and just plain ridiculous. some fans really should learn how to treat other people with respect.

I have waited this video so much and I'm not deceived ! So I'm mainly agree, especially when you talked about people's crying cause some bands are not going to their city... and I heard about some of them refuses to listen to the band anymore aswell o.o This kind of "fangirls/boys" actually disgust me ! But to be honest the video was not as negative as you said haha, that was a great stucture, you're talking about what you hate and then what you love and why you're listening to V-Kei instead... I don't know "American Hard-core" for example, or simple J-rock. That was very pleasant TODORA, congrats and thank you ! Hope we can sing together again, I miss it ! :)

I love your vid, you're hella funny. Btw, dutchy here so we're neighbours. As someone that has been listening to VK for 11+ years(and still is listening), I'm almost 24, I can say that I love how unique some songs are and typically VK, for example sounds that go from emotional to fast or soft to hard etc. Also the way they dress is awesome. I use to dress the same as a young teen boy but I transitioned genders years ago so I'm not really into the clothing style anymore. I got a lot of respect for you the way you dress. I dislike the fact that so many bands dress this way only to attract fans instead of them being artistic in their own ways, kinda like a drag queen, all for entertainment and money. Back when I was younger I dressed the same to express my feminine side and felt I could relate but I later found out that most bands are actually normal straight dudes in their day to day life. Also the fact that most bands are put together by labels just to earn money made me realize VK is kinda fake. Nowadays I'm more into the early 90-00s bands but I use to be 00s-2012ish fan. I feel like songs are more autotuned these days and have a pop-ish sound to them. I go to concerts whenever a band comes to the Netherlands, last one was Morrigan, but not so many EU tours anymore. I am in a VK group on Facebook and I can say that it's pretty awful. Like, the majority of the people from that group is extremely rude to another people from that group and also they are rude about VK bands, artists, videos, appearance etc. Like they are judging a lot and to me it seems like they are disliking everything about VK but they are still fans (?) wut...I also seen that pic with VK warrior and I was like "seriously?? wtf dude" because I don't understand how they can laugh at some bad jokes or rude comments about VK artists...

I found a Facebook page for SID fans who are from the country I'm in. One of them messaged something in one of the band's livestreams. The message wasn't in English but it translates to "Make me pregnant, Aki (bassist)", and the one who messaged that is below 18😣😣😣. Well, it's a good thing no one in the livestream is familiar with my native language.

Well done! I'm thinking about VK in a similar way, so I was happy to hear your arguments so similar to mine xD About that DISBAND thing.. I found a few very old VK magazines (Peach 2006 usw xD) and there were many DISBAND messages. Also an article were the author talks about that DISBANDing thing, she (or he) said, that today, much more bands would broke up their career instead of working together for a long time. Sad thing, but now, lovely VK-Community, we can see that DISBAND is not a todays problem, it was there the whole time. 12 Years ago and nothing has changed about that! Something I also wanted to talk about: New bands! I really like that oldie stuff. X, Buck-Tick and so on. Mostly, I listen to the "2000" Bands like GazettE, D'espa, Diru.... My problem with the new ones is, I'm lazy. I know some new bands and I want to hear some new bands, but I don't get into it. Maybe because most of my friends listen to the older ones or they don't introduce their new babes to me... For me, it's hard to search for new bands by my own... This is really sad I guess XDD I don't know whatelse to say... Just a great work again, I try to support you in the way I can, stay strong and so on... Bla bla xD

The daring glam, the weird chords and the wabi (hie-sabi) at the core of their lyrics and gestures // I take the latter from "Japan through the looking glass" by MacFarlane, p.79 the empty space felt inside by Japanese people, "being without a centre". That (as the visual-K) is so calming// About people spreading negativity they re so far from the glam they assume to worship ;) // about being foreigner, we can sneak around the barriers that u report by making choices and our curiosity urges us to dig deeply into a subject gaining a better consciousness.

Really cool VK you have! amazing hair. o.O the thing I dislike the most about the VK nowadays is the lack of creativity in the new bands. It feels like they got stuck in a formula, you know what I mean? like, they're copying each other. Sorry if it sounds too pedantic, but the VK old school bands were waaay more creative and talented. That freedom in those bands is what mesmerized me back then and I just don't see it these days.

hi welcome to the community! Visual kei clothing brand new is usually expensive and hard to get overseas. You can start off with websites like CDJapan, and PunkRave. Gothic or punk clothing shops in general are a solid option . Closetchild sells a lot of preowned stuff. Probably your final choices are DIY or searching through regular shops and figuring out what pieces will work for visual kei. Best of luck 🙂

Good video, however you sound a bit awkward 😂 nervous? I think that it's cringy how some fangirls go all crazy over bandomen and then create that tanuki etc. I didn't quite understand what tanuki is but sounded like " drama ". I have a friend who moved into Japan and she goes to her fav band's concerts and instore events very often. Then I read about those and cringe so bad. Makes me question humanity time after time. Another thing I hate is shipping bandomen. I see it as disgraceful. Nothing more of that. I like your videos and I really hope that you would make more yt videos. It all doesn't need to be of vkei but some hair tutorials, makeup tutorials etc would be just really cool ;) I'd like to see you evolving further as youtuber. Yt doesnt have many western vkei youtubers after all. :)
