Marcelito is just pure natural talent, he grew up in the streets. No professional training. Celine Dion was his role model growing up. Discovered his head voice 18 year old.
@maykachaphan69096 жыл бұрын
The nasal sound you talk of his mimic of Celine and her Canadian French English. Marcelito speaks very little English and it is heavily accented. When he sings he learns by the artist. He as you know by now is totally self taught. He has his own you tube channel which shows him practicing to karaoke. My guess is how he learned to sing and how he learns pronunciations in other languages. Scary to think just how much better he might be able to be with some real training. Not that I don’t love him as he is. The Prayer to him is very important as he feels it saved him. Might want to try his Narito Ako from wish. High register again but in his native language. So I get the emotion from it while not understanding a word of it 😊. But it is amazing.

FYI as far as I knew marcelito became popular on female voice actually he won a grand Champion in Pilipinas Got Talents when he sang The Prayer that's his winning piece from then he moved around the country for his solo shows/concert and also in Canada, Dubai, Kuwait, Singapore, Australia and many more, oh last march 2018 he's been in Chicago .Marcelito has had no formal training both music and vocal his training machine are karaoke machine. For me he's gifted.if you know his life story believe me you will cry from rags to stardom.

Vocal Tip of the day! You possibly heard about people say "chest or head voice" A head voice can sound more airy (falsetto) maybe a little bit weak,depends on how much compression you use! A chest voice will sound harder, stronger and more like your speaking voice. A good way of exploring your head voice is to sing closed vowels. Your mouth isn’t as wide open.;When you sing closed vowels: An example, ah is wider open than ee, so ee is a closed vowel and ah is an open vowel. It sounds lighter and creates vibrations that are easier to feel when you singing close vowels!

Yes Tania, his head/falsetto voice is really crispy, crystal clear and a bit nasalized and enhanced with a little reverb/echo. It's not uncommon in the Philippines for many singers doing dual voices, as you'd reacted to him in The Prayer, but Marcelito topped them all. He's got an amazing range. I think he's a Tenor. Isn't he? Tnx again Tania. Shalom!!!

This is an updated life story of Marcelito Pomoy. "To give you a background on the life of Marcelito Pomoy.... he was born in the Philippines into a broken family, his mother left the family when he was still at a very tender age of about 2 years old and his father ended up in jail. With no relatives wanting to help, Marcelito had no other choice but to join his father and stay inside the jail for a long time. Eventually one of the prison guards took him home and provided his needs while his dad had to continue serving his prison sentence. He studied kindergarten through to his 3rd grade in grade school in a local public school. He was neglected in that family so he left the only home he ever knew and walked the streets of Manila in search of his mother whom he really never knew, often going for days hungry, doing whatever odd jobs he can do to be able to buy a piece of bread or scraps of food he could find on the street dumps. He learned to humm and sing himself to sleep. He did so much variety of odd jobs like being a helper in construction sites, mixing cement manually with gravel and water and carrying it to the guys needing to build hollow blocks with cement, etc., selling boiled duck eggs which is a popular delicacy called "Balot" upto the wee hours of dawn, peddling ice cream to earn a few cents, he did fixing the pinballs up in bowling lanes daily, earning about $1 USD so he has food to eat then sleep on street curbs for several years, any job an under 12 year old kid could do Marcelito had done it. In my opinion God was guiding him all these years because he never thought of committing crimes just to be able to survive but work was plentiful for his tender age and he suffered tremendously to be able to eat daily but with Gods' Guiding Hand he made it in life. He would hang around clubs and restaurants and watch in amazement at the talent of the singers' performing while he watched from outside the door. He started singing himself and follow the way he sees the singers sing and thru the years he kept on imitating any singer he could watch on other people's TV singing. He was a no read no write kid having left his 3rd year public grade school education to fend for himself and survived all those years. He worked cleaning chicken pens in huge chicken farms and sang to the chickens while cleaning their pens and it was while singing to his audience of egg laying chickens that he discovered he could sing both a male and female voice when he was about 18 years old. We will never know if the hens produced more eggs while Marcelito was serenading them !!! He honed his skills on his own without any vocal coach to teach him because he couldn't afford to hire one then and after gaining confidence in singing other artists songs copying exactly the singers breathing pattern, diction, way of delivering their songs, etc, joined a Philippines TV network conducting a singing competition in Manila. He passed the audition and went on to the semi finals and grand finals.. He won the competition hands down despite so many excellent competitors. His monetary prize was such a huge amount to him that he never imagined he would be able to own in his lifetime as a grade 3 school educated adult. He signed a record contract with the recording studio arm of the same TV network and the rest is now history. His SUFFERINGS in life I just barely touched on the surface.... You won't be able to watch his KZbin videos about his life story coming from Marcelito Pomoy because he is not comfortable talking in conversational American English. He can sing almost any song in so many different languages with the help of a vocal coach but talk to him in English, interview him in English and he would need a translator to assist him. He is very rich now in terms of an average Filipino earning a decent living in Manila, he bought a decent home with his earnings from the singing contest and is one of the most sought after performer in the Philippines with concerts in Canada, Dubai, Spain and so many other countries. He married his girlfriend in the Catholic Church and now they have a child to enrich their married blissful life as a family. He was able to reunite his mother, father and siblings but they each have different families now. Marcelito has returned to school to be more confident in his life but it's still a very long way to go for him. He does an excellent job of emulating the diction, way of delivering of the singers he hears and watches. His favorite singer's are Celine Dion and Andre Bocelli and the PRAYER is his favorite song that he said launched his successful singing career. He first listens to each song he wants to sing, following their pronunciation, breathing patterns, etc until he's able to follow them like he did with Celine Dions songs, etc. He also jokingly said in the song THE PRAYER at the very end of the clip where he acted as if he coughed... he wanted to bring out the woman that's in him but did not elaborate any further ... and I would rather not speculate myself !!!! He is soft spoken and always a happy person to hangout with and decent but really funny jokes are so natural in him albeit often only in the Tagalog or Filipino language. The one thing that amazes me is that despite the millions of pesos (the Philippines currency ) he earns each year ... he remains as humble as a child and he has not allowed the riches of the world to go thru his head unlike so many people who changed their character when they became wealthy. Only Jesus Christ and Blessed Mother Mary can give Marcelito Pomoy a humble heart with all the success he and his family are now basking in... !!! He also is a natural born comedian, plenty of punchlines albeit mostly in Tagalog, the common dialect in the Philippines but he can imitate the voices of popular local and international personalities and if you close your eyes you'd think the person Marcelito is emulating is present before you. I hope I have shed some light on Marcelito Pomoy. Let's not forget he still is in his grade school level education but he's getting there. I'm Mr. Briones, from the Philippines, too, like Marcelito is, but I've migrated to Australia living in the beautiful city of Sydney. I'm sorry if I've stepped on the toes of one of your viewers talking about his life story. I wanted to explain further in detail Marcelito Pomoys' life story. God Bless us all. Jhun Briones Sydney Australia

I've listened to many, many vocal coach reactions of this performance and about half swear he is using mostly falsetto, while others swear his mostly not using falsetto, but a reinforced head voice. They distinguish between head voice and falsetto. Any comments to help me understand why there is such a difference in opinion on his technique ???

I do sing on my head voice and sometimes falsetto because those were the voice I'm comfortable singing. And because most of the songs I gravitate most requires me to sing in Head Voice and Falsetto (ex: Bruno Mars, Sam Smith, Adelle, Beyonce). I'm probably lucky on this generation as I do have artists I could use as a model and their songs I mostly gravitate. Unlike before, options are limited not because there were no artists that could do or have these songs as main stream songs but because of the Stigma that Men should sing Men like songs and should stay on Men's vocal range and women should sing in high pitch women sound songs. As a gay person, it is hard to join singing contest where the judges has this stigma in mind when judging so thankfully there were songs now that I can really sing well in front of many people.
