@@yusrinasaliman8862 this is honestly the first time im reading this and i've followed Ailee since i first saw her performed as a trainee on the chuseok special. Im not saying you're incorrect but since i cant find any mention of this on her wiki page especially, i am a bit skeptical. Especially since the reason is really weird. With her talent, AI wouldnt reject her for sure. In fact, there were many contestants of Asian descent who made in on the show. A good example would be John Park. And there was this other korean guy whom i've forgotten the name..

Although Tori Kelly also didn't make it far in American Idol and we all know she's amazing...so I guess even the greats can get turned away...their loss really because she is a phenomenal singer!

I actually prefer Ailee's version to Whitney Houston's, because she doesn't overdo the vocal rolls and vibratos. Her more controlled version keeps it closer to the bittersweet theme of the song. You can feel the fight between not wanting to let someone go, but doing it, anyway. It's a hard emotional line to walk, and I think Whitney Houston made it sound self-pitying, rather than noble, as the song intends.

I wouldn't bash whitney, this version is different than the original. Ailee's performance in this show is extraordinary, however, as Carl said, the arrangement and the band backing it is also contributing a huge part of the awesomeness of this version. That key stress/drop is so so sweet.

The emotion is in all her songs. But this time she was singing this just after Whitney passed away as a tribute to her. Thats why she gets a little wavy at the end. Whitney was an artist Ailee has always looked up too. But for me Ailee is a wonderful sing that is never disappointing.

Actually that wavy voice was intended. It was intended to show vulnerability of emotions and raw voices in those parts you think she's unstable (usually at her a capella part)

Ailee is probably at least 30, if not older. When I lived where I could get S. Korean night time programs over 6 years ago I heard her regularly. They had a program where they saluted great singers from the past. It was also a competition for the professionals who performed that person’s songs putting their own twists on them. She often won. So, no, she is not a “girl”. Please call her a woman or a lady.

Great reaction Carl. I was of the opinion that Ailee had the best version of this song. With the key change at the end she really put her own stamp on it. I felt she raised the bar so high it would be extremely hard to reach. Until I heard Mylene of 4th Impact do a solo cover. The emotion that she put into this song was unbelievable. She has a soulful touch that she knows exactly when to use it. As she sings she’ll look you straight in the eye and smile and take you on a journey you’ll not soon forget.
