He had lost his voice completely just a couple of days before the show. Even the morning of the show, he still couldn't talk, and had to get a throat injection just to loosen up the muscles enough to get any sound out. Some of the other contestants tried to help with Chinese herbs to ease his throat as well. He didn't want to let the fans down, so on stage he ignored the pain and kept smiling so the audience wouldn't know, and he forced his voice as much as he could in order to give a good performance. It wasn't until he was completely out of view of the audience in the back halls of the building that he dropped the smiles grabbing his throat in severe pain. He's a true professional, always giving his audience his best efforts. Even more daring, the song was written and performed by a previous winner of the competition, so you can imagine the pressure to do the song justice... but, being Dimash, he gave it a very heartfelt tribute in his performance. SONG BACKGROUND: In 1999, a cable car accident took the lives of 14 tourists in China. One couple lifted their son out of the falling cable car to safety. They didn't survive the accident. Han Hong wrote "Daybreak" to commemorate the couple's ultimate sacrifice for their child. She later adopted the orphan.

But later in the day, as predicted by the ENT doctor who specializes in singers, his voice was fully functional. One reason why the audience was so stunned, other than his great voice and presence, was because Tian Liang Le is a very well-known and beloved song in China. Yet Dimash took it to another level. You can check the original version sung by Han Hong herself (the songwriter and person who adopted the boy in the song), who is quite famous herself for her great projection skills, being of Tibetan ethnic background. Dimash’s new interpretation was so amazing that Han Hong called him personally to thank him then called him her son thereafter. Dimash has this amazing ability to keep on growing and developing a song as he integrates it into himself with time. By the time he sang this song at the Bastau concert, he morphed it again, with a heart wrenching section of runs in it.

My jest is that the doctor later said "I said no high notes!" and Dimash said, "Those? Those weren't high." But it's a jest made with utmost respect because he really did sing through the pain: the show must go on. I wish - well, you might get to see it on Gloria Wu's channel, the Singer camera on him that morning as he grimaces and whisper/croaks, "No voice. No voice." That's why some of the other contestants were looking concerned. And he did go faint ona couple notes, and left out one run...and the last lines were definitely shaky - not off-key but breathier than usual - and he used falsetto in some places where he uses head voice (in other performances). He knows how to compensate.

I believe that he did very well on this performance. In the Bastau concert, he had a full lower note although I notice that he was trying harder in the competition than the concert. Overall, he did perform beautifully. That is Dimash, perfection.

The only reason I can tell he’s sick here is because of his performance of this song in Bastau! Otherwise, he still sounds better than me at my best 😂. You should definitely check out the Bastau performance it’s incredible! But yes he was very sick, his doctor even said no high notes but he gave his all for his fans anyways! He was in a lot of pain when he went backstage after this

To get real feeling of the song, you should know the translation... the song is written by Chinese singer Hang Hong after car incident in mountains in China in 1994, where one couple lifted their child outside the car to save his life... couple died and the boy has been adopted by Hang Hong later... there are versions of the song with English subtitles... also, Dimash had another performance of the same song in his Bastau concert and he nailed it... he showed how really he wanted to sing it if no throat problems... check it out! thank you for these Dimash analysis videos. I enjoyed every single one of them. Yes, he was quite sick here. He had several injections to his throat. There are backstage footage and it was heartbreaking to watch. can he sing this song better? oh yes. please check "Daybreak Bastau". it's the version he performed at his solo Bastau concert. It is literally epic!!! no words to describe that performance. I don't know if you do same song twice, but we would appreciate if you did. even if you won't do a video for it, at least listen it for yourself. greetings!

If you like this version, I'd love to recommend the version of the Bastau concert song. Even if I did not make a video response, look for yourself. There, his voice was completely cured. Hi, like others have said he had been ill for a couple of days and the morning of the show he had no voice, they took him to hospital and he had injections direct into his vocal chords. He was advised not to sing and certainly no high notes. There is a video on here taken on the morning and at the hospital and one of the other contestants giving him some "magic" Chinese medicine!! The only sign I noticed was that he looked ill ... his eyes dull instead of sparkly but on one of the longer vids that show a clip before the stage appearance and going back to the green room he was holding/pressing his throat in agony after the performance. Awsome reaction tho as usual 👌👌👌

Thanks for your reaction! Yes he did sound great in the performance but it was really painful for him to sing it but he kept on singing because he didn't want to let down his fans. If you watch his performance at Bastau concert you will notice that it's way better and have more incredible notes. Can't wait for your reaction of confessa + the diva dance. (Also from this show) he does sing the diva dance great here but better at some other concerts. He just did a concert at Shenzhen concert where he sang it amazingly. Though I'm not sure if there are a good video of it yet.

I have been watching many different reactions on Dimash the past year, many of them are musicians, singers, vocal instructors or students. I find that most just explains his singing method or just reacts that they are shock or like the song. What I like about your reactions is that you checks his notes quite frequently and explain in a way that a non music person can understand (like me...I don't even know the difference of the abcdefg you are talking about). Keep it up. Btw I checked your lessons but don't know which one I should start first. I never sang any full songs b4 except Amazing Grace ...everyone says i have a sweet voice but when I sing, it's horrible...haha

I read somewhere recently that he did sing the notes but every note hurt. They said Dimash's throat was in a lot of pain after. Good thing he had a doctor there. Besides, Dimash one of those rare people that is pitch perfect. Why would he need pitch correction?

Not only did Dimash go to the doctor to get the shot because he lost his voice but one of the other contestants gave him some very expensive throat drops that they guaranteed would help. Some kind of herb from China. Obviously they worked.
