Literally the greatest rock band of all time (fight me on it LOL)...this song set new precedence & records in track length (for radio play) as well as fusing operatic with rock, ballads & upbeat with quiet melancholy, all without excessive syncopation...1 of my fave songs & bands of all time...such a brilliant genius & legend!! RIP Freddie Mercury...awesome video 🥹🙌🥰🤌✨️🎙🎼🎶

The operatic part is Roger, Brian and Freddie singing. In fact, Roger Taylor has a very high voice and sang the high Galileo and the rest of the high parts. Brian May has a lower, warm tone. The three got so they could over dub their voices so perfectly they could sound like a choir, which is what they did in Somebody To Love. This concert has the best version of that song imo. This whole concert is 💯 Freddie always sang with such passion. Absolute genius. Thanks for the great reaction!

In the original recording, the very start of the song 'Is this the real life, is this just fantasy, caught in a landslide...' etc, was ALL Freddie's voice where he did multiple recordings and layered them all on to each other to create that wonderful and incredibly complex multi layered harmonisation of his own voice (Freddie continued to use this technique of multilayering his own voice in a geat many of his songs). The middle section of the song, the 'Gallileo, Figaro...' etc, section, or in other words, 'the trial, the verdict and the sentence' section, again was created by multilayering voices, but Freddie, for this part, along with his own voice, also used Roger, Brian and John's voices (John wasn't a singer, but he could keep a tune and he also could sing very low, so Freddie utilised John's lower register), and with all four voices, John singing low, Brian middle, Roger high (Roger was the one who hit the really high note) and Freddie multi layering his voice to add depth to all three, Low, Middle and High registers, Freddie created a multilayered harmonisation that gave the impression that is was a whole choir singing and not simply four voices. Because of the impossibility of being able to do both the first and middle sections live, Freddie always omitted the first part of the song, and started the live versions with 'Mumma, just killed a man...', and then the middle Gallileo/Trial section was the original recording that played whilst the band had a very brief interval before coming back live straight into the heavy rock section. Freddie was a Genius!

It may have been prerecorded but it certainly wasn't just Mercury singing. It was also Taylor and May who also are both accomplished vocalists.

I love, love Freddie, but too often the other band members don't get enough credit - like Roger singing like this and playing drums. Also, the higher Galileo's are Roger. All were masters of their instruments, and all played multiple instruments. Also, all were in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

I can attest to how great they are live. I saw them a little over a year before this show, in September 1980, and a little less than a year after in July 1982. Both times were in Madison Square Garden.

My favorite was the Live Aid performance. Just because the audience was so huge, they stole the show, and it was so meaningful because the band had recently gotten back together and the show had special meaning for them.
@NicolWUJ7 ай бұрын
well the band had not "gotten back together" as the movie indicates. The band had actually just finished "The Works Tour" 2 months before Live Aid, but either way, they stole the show!

What a timely video! My choir's Summer theme is Queen! Of course this song is on the playlist. I've sung this in another season as well. I think I even posted our virtual video in OSS a couple years ago. ☺️
