This is an updated life story of Marcelito Pomoy. "To give you a background on the life of Marcelito Pomoy.... he was born in the Philippines into a broken family, his mother left the family when he was still at a very tender age of about 2 years old and his father ended up in jail. With no relatives wanting to help, Marcelito had no other choice but to join his father and stay inside the jail for a long time. Eventually one of the prison guards took him home and provided his needs while his dad had to continue serving his prison sentence. He studied kindergarten through to his 3rd grade in grade school in a local public school. He was neglected in that family so he left the only home he ever knew and walked the streets of Manila in search of his mother whom he really never knew, often going for days hungry, doing whatever odd jobs he can do to be able to buy a piece of bread or scraps of food he could find on the street dumps. He learned to humm and sing himself to sleep. He did so much variety of odd jobs like being a helper in construction sites, mixing cement manually with gravel and water and carrying it to the guys needing to build hollow blocks with cement, etc., selling boiled duck eggs which is a popular delicacy called "Balot" upto the wee hours of dawn, peddling ice cream to earn a few cents, he did fixing the pinballs up in bowling lanes daily, earning about $1 USD so he has food to eat then sleep on street curbs for several years, any job an under 12 year old kid could do Marcelito had done it. In my opinion God was guiding him all these years because he never thought of committing crimes just to be able to survive but work was plentiful for his tender age and he suffered tremendously to be able to eat daily but with Gods' Guiding Hand he made it in life. He would hang around clubs and restaurants and watch in amazement at the talent of the singers' performing while he watched from outside the door. He started singing himself and follow the way he sees the singers sing and thru the years he kept on imitating any singer he could watch on other people's TV singing. He was a no read no write kid having left his 3rd year public grade school education to fend for himself and survived all those years. He worked cleaning chicken pens in huge chicken farms and sang to the chickens while cleaning their pens and it was while singing to his audience of egg laying chickens that he discovered he could sing both a male and female voice when he was about 18 years old. We will never know if the hens produced more eggs while Marcelito was serenading them !!! He honed his skills on his own without any vocal coach to teach him because he couldn't afford to hire one then and after gaining confidence in singing other artists songs copying exactly the singers breathing pattern, diction, way of delivering their songs, etc, joined a Philippines TV network conducting a singing competition in Manila. He passed the audition and went on to the semi finals and grand finals.. He won the competition hands down despite so many excellent competitors. His monetary prize was such a huge amount to him that he never imagined he would be able to own in his lifetime as a grade 3 school educated adult. He signed a record contract with the recording studio arm of the same TV network and the rest is now history. His SUFFERINGS in life I just barely touched on the surface.... You won't be able to watch his KZbin videos about his life story coming from Marcelito Pomoy because he is not comfortable talking in conversational American English. He can sing almost any song in so many different languages with the help of a vocal coach but talk to him in English, interview him in English and he would need a translator to assist him. He is very rich now in terms of an average Filipino earning a decent living in Manila, he bought a decent home with his earnings from the singing contest and is one of the most sought after performer in the Philippines with concerts in Canada, Dubai, Spain and so many other countries. He married his girlfriend in the Catholic Church and now they have a child to enrich their married blissful life as a family. He was able to reunite his mother, father and siblings but they each have different families now. Marcelito has returned to school to be more confident in his life but it's still a very long way to go for him. He does an excellent job of emulating the diction, way of delivering of the singers he hears and watches. His favorite singer's are Celine Dion and Andre Bocelli and the PRAYER is his favorite song that he said launched his successful singing career. He first listens to each song he wants to sing, following their pronunciation, breathing patterns, etc until he's able to follow them like he did with Celine Dions songs, etc. He also jokingly said in the song THE PRAYER at the very end of the clip where he acted as if he coughed... he wanted to bring out the woman that's in him but did not elaborate any further ... and I would rather not speculate myself !!!! He is soft spoken and always a happy person to hangout with and decent but really funny jokes are so natural in him albeit often only in the Tagalog or Filipino language. The one thing that amazes me is that despite the millions of pesos (the Philippines currency ) he earns each year ... he remains as humble as a child and he has not allowed the riches of the world to go thru his head unlike so many people who changed their character when they became wealthy. Only Jesus Christ and Blessed Mother Mary can give Marcelito Pomoy a humble heart with all the success he and his family are now basking in... !!! He also is a natural born comedian, plenty of punchlines albeit mostly in Tagalog, the common dialect in the Philippines but he can imitate the voices of popular local and international personalities and if you close your eyes you'd think the person Marcelito is emulating is present before you. I hope I have shed some light on Marcelito Pomoy. Let's not forget he still is in his grade school level education but he's getting there. I'm Mr. Briones, from the Philippines, too, like Marcelito is, but I've migrated to Australia living in the beautiful city of Sydney. I'm sorry if I've stepped on the toes of one of your viewers talking about his life story. I wanted to explain further in detail Marcelito Pomoys' life story. God Bless us all. Jhun Briones Sydney Australia

I'm not understanding why, in the space of several months, no one has given thanks (or even recognition) of your lengthy post defining the background of this artist. Perhaps many skipped over the story upon seeing too many words for their daily time allotment, but I found it a necessary "mini-essay" for those who wish to appreciate him to the fullest. The struggles one endures to reach their goal is to be appreciated and gives valuable insight and inspiration. Allow me to express my gratitude for a thorough and well-written post, of which few have obviously taken a few minutes to absorb.

Hello sir Jhun. I am a Filipino and an avid fan of MP but this is my first time to learn Marcelito's complete background. Thank you so much for sharing these information about him. The more that I admired and loved him. I was touched by his humbleness and made me cry. I am so happy that God is with him all the way and now he is in the stardom yet so humble. I pray to God to grant all his wishes and wish him all the best. You must have known Marcelito all your life sir. Again, thank you. Stay safe and God bless.

One in a million to be born with that dual voice talent. Very rare. I think this person should be preserved. I can say that listening to his voice gives me goosebumps because it is not natural for a man to sing like a woman with flawless voice and switches to a deep male voice. Truly amazing. Hands down to the floor. His talent really is one of a kind.

Marcelito Castro Pomoy IS THE REAL DEAL. I had the great privilege of meeting and watching him in concert in June in Toronto. Check out his life story; it is worthy of a movie. Watching him live was like an out of body experience. The videos DO NOT do his voice any justice. Proud to be Filipino. Cheers from Toronto.

Ed M - Not true 😊. In the Philippines, this is quite common 😁. We even have a singing competition specifically for this type of talent, i.e. can sing both male and female parts of a duet. But it is Marcelito that does this the best 😁

THE VOCAL LEXICON - Coach, allow me to introduce you to a singer that actually did better than Marcelito. Her name is Katrina Velarde. If Marcelito took one song and used two voices, Katrina took one song and used eight voices of world famous singers, and everything was on point that they were almost indistinguishable from those original artists, and she did it while babysitting 😊. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYWumHSAlNatkJI You must check it out. Thanks.

Go to any Gay/Comedy Bar in Metro-Manila and there will always be dual voice singers, its a singing style developed by the comedy bar scene in Manila, Marcelito only made it mainstream and introduced it to everyone outside the scene.

Nice reaction video; I'm really impressed that you noted how much he sounds like them. A lot other vocal coaches have criticised various parts of his technique, like his use of shorter vowels or keeping his mouth too closed, but those are both things he's doing deliberately to imitate the sound/accent of Celine and Andrea respectively. Even Celine keeps her mouth quite closed.

Try listening and reacting to a Filipino singer Marcelito Pomoy in his 4 songs at America's Got Talent, his version of Endless Love, You Raise Me Up, You're My Heart You're My Soul, Dance with My Father, Listen, his chinese song The Moon Represents My Heart popularized by Teresa Teng, his songs Never Enough, Despacito, Perfect and the Prayer at One Magical Night Concert, Ikaw Ang Pangarap, his duet with Morissette Amon Secret Love Song and all his Filipino songs including those he interpreted at A Song Of Praise (ASOP) such as Aasa Sa Awa Mo, Ama and Pagbabalik.

First may I also point out he is singing in two different languages, the male in Italian and the female in English, and neither is his own language. It all comes down to unbelievable control of his throat muscles and his natural fantastic range and perfect sense of pitch. Singing in two voices of course is not unique but this guy is probably the finest exponent. One other person who can sing in two voices perfectly is of course a 12 year old girl called Darci Lynne who does a rock singer voice and an opera singer voice in her own one girl duet. She also manipulates two puppets at the same time, but then adds another trick to the performance by doing it all with her mouth shut.

Surprised is an understatement, this guy just did a duet with himself or rather the woman trapped inside his body and he's doing it like its nothing?!? His transitions though...can someone please tell me what they are putting in the water over there cause I want some, that was just crazy! 😯

Depends on where you drink it. typically the drinking water here ranges from distilled to (polluted) sewer water. I'm not even joking. He was homeless and I've seen where most homeless dudes drink from, it will give you diarrhea and probably put anyone on antibiotics for a month

You are as good as the artist. The way you observe and critiqued. Your analysis of the performance was as trained as the artist! By the way, I am also musically trained, a fine arts graduate and a US senior architectural design director. I don’t just appreciate the skill of the artist but I pay close attention to the reaction. Great job! Very observant and honest! 👍

He is effortless He does not strain to hit the high and low notes as compared to other singers but anyway thanks to be one of our pride . A singer who has no voice lesson and did it by himself and born with it . Thank you vocal cords
