Sohyang is a cancer survivor. She pours her whole soul into each of her live performances. She lives for this moment, and it shows. It's a spiritual experience. She gave up lucrative commercial contracts to be able to do what she loves: singing to heal people's hearts. She's also delivered beautiful speeches about compassion. I love Sohyang!

She is not only a singer but a vocal professor in an university in South Korea. Thanks for your analysis and reaction! By the way, the highest belting and head voice of her from videos is C#6 and A6 respectively. She didn't use any whistle voice in the public.

Philip Yeung A6 has to be in whistle, you have non idea what you are talking. Even the highest sopranos with perfect thenique, could not do that. She is amazing singer, great soprano etc..but it's impossible.

Philip Yeung I'll check, but as far I am concerned it is impossible to go above Eb6/E6 without whistle. Not even the best thenically trained singers like Marayah Carrey can't do so. Simply that's like the last bridge/passagio in human voice.

Mačak u čizmama Mariah Carey has a thicker voice so I think she could be a mezzo soprano instead of soprano. She can only use whistle to create the sixth octave notes. Of course her whistle is the best of the world indeed. Sohyang’s sixth octaves has bigger resonance than others so I believe it was head voice but not whistle voice.

You posted this on her birthday! 😊 She turned 40 yesterday. Thanks for reacting to her. My Queen deserves more recognition. It’s funny how you talk about how much emotion she brings to her performances, because a lot of people say she doesn’t sing with emotion. Which is completely ridiculous to me because she makes me feel so many emotions when I hear and see her sing. Please react to Arirang Alone (this one is also on KZbin). Or Where Are You (this one you’ll have to find the video on Vimeo because the video of this performance on KZbin is interrupted with talking lol). Are any of her performances on the show King of Masked Singer (the full performances are on Vimeo as well because the ones on KZbin are cut mid way). Looking forward to more Sohyang videos :)

If I’m not mistaken, SO HYANG was diagnosed with cancer…after surviving the ordeal she saw her second chance at life as a gift from God and dedicated her voice/life to brining joy to others…she is a gospel singer who grew up singing in church and she rejected international fame choosing instead to sing only for Jesus and to raise money for charity. This is why I believe we feel so much from her singing...its from above and real.

Jason Kim For traditional Chinese, we counted the age with the same system. It’s funny to know Korea is using this system too. But nowadays most of the people just count the age based on the calendar date. 1 year will be 1 year of age.

Also speaking of her hand movement. You will see in many of her videos, when she gets into her upper range, her hand movement is like a director as she goes up and down, so do her hands, as if she is telling a class where the notes will be. She was very well taught, and it shows. Probably why she has opened up a music school in S. Korea and teaches singing.
