I'm 76 years old and at the age of twelve or so I bought hert album: Ella at the Opera House. I fell in love immediately. I have spent the rest of my life following her career and her recordings. Thank God for Ella. NO ONE can convey a "standard" or a swinging jazz tune as she.

I cannot think of a female singer who sings better than Ella Fitzgerald. So pure, so melodic, so controlled. My Dad loved Ella, I was more a Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd kind of guy but slowly and gradually widened my musical tastes enough to be able to enjoy and appreciate other genres. Ella Fitzgerald is there best!!😁😁🇬🇧

I’ve been babbling on about the greatness of Ella Fitzgerald for 35 years. It makes my heart sing to know that millennials are appreciating her. Nobody came close to her (apart from Sarah Vaughan) and everybody in the business knew it.

Nina, "Summertime" is the most covered American song in history. Your reaction to Angelina Jordan's cover at Norway's Got Talent, clearly inspired by Ella's performance, is outstanding! Thank you! Here's AJ performing "Summertime" with a full band: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaXad2eqnpanmMU

Angelina’s performances of Summertime are very closely modelled on Ella’s early studio recording of this song. They are nothing like this rendition, which is on another level entirely.

Much appreciation for lending your attention to Jazz, and the breathtaking live performance from Ella Fitzgerald.... She is master over her voice and oh so creative in this interpretation. I hope you allow more time to this genre... There's so much to learn about the influence it has had on many. BRAVO Nina!!

Ella is so insanely good. One of the best singers of all time singing one of the best songs of the last 100 years. She has so much control and never oversings. Modern singers could learn so much from her. My favorite performance from her is Basin Street Blues

Checking out Louis Armstrong and Ella's Fitzgerald doing a duet is a must. By themselves each was spectacular but those 2 doing a duet is pure magic.

I count myself incredibly fortunate to have been able to see Ella Fitzgerald perform live, before she passed. Even as she aged, she continued to find amazing ways to harness the changing character that aging brought to her voice. Like other commenters, I'm thrilled to see you giving some love to jazz!

I love this reaction! I totally agree that we are blessed to have Ella's performances right at our fingertips! This is the type of music that my mom played throughout her life. They were masters of their art. May I suggest a live performance of Judy performing "The Man That Got Away"?

Checked all the comments hoping someone might try a guess. I do recognize that voice but putting a face to it; closest I can come at the moment is Tony Bennett.

not sure if theres already echoe feature on every mic that time, thats why organizers whant a big room enough to produce it, and singers vibrato to emitate it. microphones that time are mid range tone pick up imagine them singing now, their vocals are godly supreme

LOVE the jazz direction you're taking! Including this reaction, wonderful. I came to vocal jazz via Angelina - she got me interested in going back in time and listening some to Ella, Etta, Louis and of course Billie Holiday, but I feel like I've only scratched the surface. So looking forward to continuing the journey with you Nina!

I am a historian. Did you know Ella 'invented' scat, she said because she forgot the words?" Only someone as talented as her could get away with it. Her voice is so controlled, this is what she focused upon, When she made the 'scat' statement, she was young and skinny. How these performers can do a 'standard' thousands of time and make the audiences still feel it without being fake, mystifies me.

You might be interested in checking out some early Nikki Yanofsky videos. She is a Canadian singer who at 12 years old was a hit at the 2006 Montreal International Jazz Festival, singing Ella Fitzgerald numbers. There used to be an early video from Quebec TV, but it isn't there anymore. There are some from a few years later, eg. with Quincy Jones in 2011 doing Ella's "Airmail Special", and "Lullaby Of Birdland", or "Take The A Train".

And she'll never sing it like this again. So versatile and smooth. You can pickup that influence on Angelina when she covers "Everytime We Say Goodbye", a quiet farewell to Oslo. Days later, 10 yr old AJ and family would begin an extended stay in the USA in preparation for a permanent relocation a couple of years later. IMHO,, the most touching & pristine performance of her young life. There's a wonderfull mashup of Angi and Ella singing this.

As an amateur jazz musician, that interpretation supplants any other, even the opera version of Summertime, which, to my taste, is technically perfect but lacking rythm and emotion.
