It seems like this is the one song that has had a lot of changes. 1) First one being the movie part. In this bootleg she says "He smokes ganja, ooh it's so groovy, To stay home and watch an Adam Sandler movie" In the bootleg you watched for the previous video, she mentions Will Smith and one of the boys does his dance. In the official cast recording album, she instead says "Transformer movie" 2) Then comes the parts in which she addresses Ricky. In this bootleg she says: "Dragon Ball, Pokémon, He's a real sweet kid, but his brains are gone!" In the bootleg you've watched for the previous videos, she says: "Angry Birds, Candy Crush, He's a real sweet kid, but his brains are mush" And in the official cast recording album, she says: "Pokémon, Spiderman, This kid doesn't have an attention span"

@@singwithAshley I think it's mostly a change in direction for the musical. Modern adaptations apparently have Ricky use his crutches throughout the musical, instead of losing them in the beginning. There have also been some content changes to the musical, one I saw mentioned was that two characters do improv segments now that replace other moments. Personally, I prefer the second one of these (the one you've watched previously), the characters interact better in my opinion. Also, I saw another comment mention this, but if you want to react to the first song of the show, there are two versions. One is from said bootleg and earlier versions of the show, called Fall Fair Suite. The second one is from most recent versions and is in the official cast recording, titled Uranium Suite.

as for the will Smith thing, that changed depending on the actor playing mischa. they'd ask them what his favorite actor/movie was and change the lyric to that.

I recently read the the Ride the Cyclone script, and you are right! Ocean is a mezzo-soprano! It goes Jane- Soprano Ocean- Mezzo Constance- Alto Noel- Tenor Ricky- Bass Mischa- Baritone At least in the original script, anyhow :)

There are couple different versions of the opening songs that you can find on youtube, but personally i rlly like them all tbh, they're called "Tragic Fact", "Fall Fair suite" and "Waiting for the drop", also on the official cast recording there's "Uranium suite" and "Karnak's dream of life". They're all really good songs.

when you were talking about the vowel “I” and how funky it can can sound, i think that’s called a diphthong. instead of saying vowels like “i-ee” or “a-ee”, you’re supposed to use the combination of multiple sounds, like “ah-ee” (i) or “eh-ee” (a) so it sounds more pleasant to our ears.

You’re absolutely correct! When 2 vowels work together to make a sound, those are diphthongs! Great catch! When singing, we manipulate these sounds to modify our resonance and tone. So that we can create a more blended overall tone. We also use vowel manipulation to help us nail some of those tricky notes in a healthy way!

Thanks for another good vocal coach analysis! If you’re ever interested in seeing different versions of songs from this musical, there’s some videos up of the McCarter theater production on KZbin. Their Jane Doe has more of the Classic Broadway Soprano/Brighter Soprano voice going on like you were mentioning at the end of this video, and it makes a really neat contrast to the darker tone the one you watched used.

I don't know why, but I use your videos to work on ride the Cyclone songs. The first time I listen to it I do whatever I want or whatever is comfortable to me. And when you correct it for the singer I try the correction and it helps me. So these videos are really good way for me to work on those songs. Like you were saying that "I get up" part where she doesn't use her head voice I tried it with and without my head voice and using head voice does help me. I also used The Ballad Of Jane Doe and Fall Fair Suite. It helps me by the way you broke everything down, the way you explain it is a very nice way. I remember in the Fall Fair Suite video you were talking about the jump on the word "rot" that Noel was singing and the way you explained helped me hit the note. Same with Jane's Doe part also in Fall Fair Suite. The way you broke it all down was a very easy way for my brain to comprehend. Thank you so much for helping me (Even though you were really just saying stuff about the singer.) it made more confident to sing the songs. (I'm so sorry this is so long.)

@@singwithAshley The only harder thing for me is I'm a Alto that can kinda hit some soprano notes and tenor notes. It does cause a bit of struggle though so in some moments when she's having a higher note I have to use my head voice a lot.

Hi Jesse! each Body and voice is different. I would suggest “scooping” with different vowels (aim tall yet forward) to find what works best with YOUR VOICE. Record yourself to see how you like your sound and watch out for strain on your vocal chords. We don’t want that!!
