I saw an interview with Chris Stapleton, where he said he classifies himself as Country, but he sings whatever he feels like at that moment. Fortunately, for us, he can sing anything!

Chris did something special with this. He made the anthem sound like a song, not another rendition of an anthem, but a fully fledged song in its own right. I've never heard anyone give the anthem its own character like that.

Thank you!!! He is not country and I try to tell everyone. He throws several styles together and that describes GenX perfectly to me. I am also from Kentucky and can't be more proud of him. He plays here every time he plays anywhere and I promise you he sounds the same, if not better, than you hear on the radio. And so kind, sweet, and humble. Proud of basically all famous people who have come from here actually. ❤

He was a songwriter for a long time before his wife Morgane convinced him to start performing, and he admits he still gets stage fright to this day. Watch him doing "Tennessee Whiskey" live in Austin 2019, Morgane is singing backup and you can see him looking at her throughout the song as reassurance. Awesome performance.

Chris sits in country because he established himself first as a songwriter that wrote for all the big country names. And his storytelling is very inline with classic country. To me, Chris Stapleton’s genre is Chris Stapleton.

His control, without even looking like he's trying is what's crazy, in any song he does. This was another level, though.

A lot of the old school country artists were heavily influenced by the blues. Country got away from that and moved closer to pop for many years but thanks to artists like CS, it's bringing the blues element back in. I believe ANY genre of music is made better when influenced by blues and soul.

To be clear, you had wondered about lip syncing-Chris Stapleton does. Not. Lip. Sync. Ever. He is such a gifted singer that it feels like he is doing some soul channeling while he sings. He never sings a song exactly the same way twice. He’s truly one of the few gifted singers of the world. His version, Whitney’s and Marvin Gaye’s are my top three, in no particular order.

Hi Mr. Harris. I think this is the best version and performance of the National Anthem of all time. Chris' version was a fusion of blues and gospel, he played and sang live and he made the crowd FEEL the song. It was sublime, powerful and spiritual.

It was so soulfull and emotional, the entire stadium was so quiet and tuned in, it was great. I love it when a big voice singer understands how impactful singing quietly can be. I am with you on diction, I want to understand what you are saying when you sing. Whitney is the best for traditional anthem performance, love Chris' version.

On the Grammys..after the performance with Stevie Wonder, he had a smile on his face like a "kid in a candy store". He has such respect for other artists, particularly the masters of the craft like Wonder. ** P.S. You are hearing that Kentucky "mountain accent", although his is slight, compared to many...like Patty Loveless. No doubt diction and vocal mechanisms also come into play. Appreciate your reaction and candor.
