George Harvey Strait Sr. is an American country music singer, songwriter, actor, and music producer. Strait is considered one of the most influential and popular recording artists of all time. In the 1980s, he was credited for pioneering the neotraditional country style, famed for his authentic cowboy image and roots-oriented sound at a time when the Nashville music industry was dominated by country pop crossover acts. Given his influence on the genre, Strait has been named the "King of Country Music by writers and music critics.
"Amarillo by Morning" is a country music song written by Terry Stafford and Paul Fraser, and recorded in a country pop style by Stafford as a single in 1973 to minor success. The song would be popularized in a fiddle-based Western rendition by Texas neotraditionalist George Strait in 1982.

He was offered a job designing cattle pens and gave notice that he was quitting music but his wife made him give music one more year before he gave up. Record Executives would not give him a deal. He had 33 top 10 hits in a row, 22 of which were No. 1s. He has 86 top 10 hits with 44 of them being No. 1s. Man's a living legend. And it doesn't matter if he's standing in front 10 people or in a sold out arena, he sounds the same.

To say George was huge is an understatement, and is still amazing. This is true country music before they started with all the elements from other genres and electronic doo-hickys that they try to have today. This is the story telling of a cowboy riding the rodeo circuit which George has actually done, he's the real thing. Another one of his greatest songs is "Cross My Heart" which was my first ex-wife and my song. Still very hard for me to listen to, but it is so absolutely great.

Here in Texas, he's OUR King George. Got to see him in concert once, and it was awesome. George revived & kept alive the Texas Swing genre originated by Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys. At the concert, there was a section of the venue that was clear of chairs which served as a dance floor. His music has always been absolutely MADE for dancing, and has been a dance hall staple here for decades. ...and yes... smoothest voice in country music. ❤❤

There's a sequel to this song, called "I Can Still Make Cheyenne". George Strait is one of the greatest singers in history. I've seen him in concert twice, and he's all about the music. No pyrotechnics, no dazzling light show, no props. Just him, the band, and the instruments. The only other thing on the stage, is a plain wooden stool, with his bottles of water on it.

Amarillo by Morning ,was the first country song that I really loved immediately, and opened my ears and mind to give country music some respect. Before this song by George Strait, country music for me was just a tale of woe about how my girl left me, lost my job, I get fall down drunk and my dog just died. I thought if this song is country music, I want more like this.😊

George is a grieving father. He lost his oldest daughter when she was 13 yrs old. He wrote a song for her called “Baby Blue” that you should react to. I did not realize it happened until after I lost my youngest daughter almost 10 years ago. You become less sociable and yes private. Thank you for reacting to this song.🙏🏼🌹💕
@scotthunt2479
@scotthunt2479 2 ай бұрын
It's a nice thought, but, unfortunately, it's not accurate. "Baby Blue" was not written by George Strait. It was written by Aaron Barker in 1984, and George's daughter was killed in 1986 - so the song could not have been written for her. As a matter of fact, when Barker wrote the song, he wasn't really aware of who George Strait was. George found out about the song from his manager, Erv Woolsey. All that aside, sorry for the loss of your daughter.

From 1988 to the early 2000's, I went to 21 George Strait concerts. I saw him 11 years in a row at the George Strait Team Roping Classic in Kingsville Texas. Those were the best shows ever. George truly is a humble and nice man. I had the opportunity to sit down with him not long after his daughter was killed in a car accident (I was a country DJ at the time) and that is my favorite interview. He's also a champion bareback rider. Although he's never written his own songs he and his song writer were so close he may as well have!

The first two times I saw him at the Ector County Coliseum in Odessa, Texas, they left about the back third of the floor area open with no chairs so that people could dance if they wanted to. And believe me, there were a lot of us that wanted to! Before he had his big break out, hits, The Ace In The Hole Band played the honky tonks. He said he loved to watch people dancing while they played. But it wasn’t very long before he started selling so many tickets to his concerts that there was no room in the back to leave for people to dance! Oh, he has so many number one hits it’s hard to choose what you should listen to next, but I’d like to see you react to his song Run.

I'm not a country fan, but I'm a Texan and I've seen George Strait 3 times. Great performer and a true Texas treasure!

So happy you're covering King George - its obvious why he is the King of Country. I had the honor of spending a couple of hours with him at his house here in San Antonio several years ago, and boy, was he the very kindest and coolest guy to hang with. We need more country folk like him. Keep up the great work!

We used to go see him at the different dancehalls in and around the hill country long before he hit the big time. He is also one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. He is definitely in my daily rotation.

American Country Western music was born in the same land you were Ms. Beth. It came to our shores with the Scots, the Irish, and the English. In the soils of the New World the music of the old world found new expression. A great reaction by the way. Thank You.

My favorite George Strait song and probably my favorite country song of all times, especially being a Texan. I’ve played this song bunches with my band and even more in solo performances. Even at home it’s the first song I play when I pick up my guitar.

His "Fool-Hearted Memory" is perhaps the best two-step dance song ever. He plays periodically close to me, and his former keyboard player is a neighbor.
