Completely agree! I saw them in 2002 and finally again in 2019. They were supposed to come again last September, but dang Covid. I already had my tix and all. My brother bought the 2019 show tix in May of 2019 for a November show at the Ryman for Make Yourself tour. I got diagnosed with breast cancer in October and had partial mastectomy on Nov. 21st. The show was the 27th. Night before Thanksgiving and I told my brother I was going unless I was dead. We wrapped me up super well and when we got there, we had tix at the frigging stage!!! Still one of THE best nights ever.

Incubus and a lot of Southern California bands (RHCP, System of a Down, etc.) always have a foot in jazz inflections in their music to add progressive element. And Brandon Boyd’s accent is PURE SoCal, dude.

Incubus is interesting because it appeals to so many people. It appeals to rock/metal dudes. It appeals to gear nerds who could just be talking hours about Mike’s rig. It appeals to musicians, with each member of the band being talented af. It appeals to pop fans with the sorta surface accessibility their music has. Amazing.

Brandon is one cool dude :). Used to hang out at Diedrich’s Coffee on 17th in Costa Mesa, though it was called the Newport Beach shop lol anyway, one of the guys in our group, Scott, knew the band and Brandon hung out with us a few times. He gave me a sticker for my car, but it was printed on regular type paper, not waterproof, and it disintegrated the next day from the foggy condensation in the back window lol but the glue stayed for months haha Not too long after that they started getting a name for themselves, and I think it was the Fungus Amongus EP that came out soon after that.

I started following them the day S.C.I.E.N.C.E came out & they became my favorite band for a long time. Their live performances were next level. I just couldn't get into their much later work starting w/ the album that had "Megalomaniac" on it (just felt they no longer conveyed that emotional energy) but will always consider their work up until then, even Fungus Amongus innovative & legendary.

I’ve sang this song many times as a cover (slightly higher key, I can’t quite get as low as he does :p) and it is surprisingly difficult to sing this song well. The precision he sings this with is insane, where he stops and holds notes feels weird, and the intervals and accents are just plain bizarre and unnatural. I love it!
