I just spent 15 minutes trying to find a specific recording on KZbin and I can't find it. I might have to figure out how to digitize this myself. The VHS version of the Priest...Live! contains a version of Desert Plains that is absolutely mind blowing. I remember thinking that the band was trying to give a different experience to each format available at that time because both had different examples of The Metal God blowing the PA's up with his voice. On the CD it's Love Bites. On the VHS, it's Desert Plains. Although I've heard Love Bites many more times, I think my favorite moment is Desert Plains. It's hard to find, but worth the effort. If you want to be blown away by Halford's voice on studio versions, my two first suggestions would be Dreamer Deceiver on Rocka Rolla or Blood Red Skies on Ram it Down. Epitaph on Sad Wings of Destiny and Before the Dawn on Hell Bent for Leather are just plain beautiful. I could go on. I think the host did Dreamer Deceiver but it was a heavily cut BBC live version. She hasn't done a true Metal God performance and I truly hope she does.

Of course that was referring to the *original* JP cover, which was faster and more hard rock sounding. Old heads like me remember it from Sin After Sin and Unleashed in the East. This version is more like the arrangement they did with Ripper in the 90's as heard on Live Meltdown. Ripper did an astonishing job on that...take a listen if you haven't heard it. Such a great version, was excelent to hear them bring this classic Joan Baez cover back to an acoustic version, (though their electric version is also damn good) Halford truly understands live vocal delivery and stage prescence, all the nuanced inflections and yes, his diction and ennuciation were always a few steps above most heavy rock band vocalists. This acoustic version really highlights the lyrics, being that it's such an emotive and perfectly told story that most anyone could relate to. Enjoying your channel very much as well, cheers!

Hi Ms. Rebecca! ANOTHER great pick! Over 4 decades and with a wide vocal range which is marked by his high-pitched screams and strong vibrato, Rob Halford is one of the most Exceptional Rock Style Singers to ever come along. In the same category with Freddie Mercury AND coming out of Britain, Halford is a True Master over his craft. However, he is an aged man now albeit his lower range has matured and become more powerful with time, Rob is nearing his retirement. I HIGHLY recommend watching some live concert footage from the 80s if you wish to see this man (and band) in his true prime. Check out "Victim of Changes", concert in Memphis, TN around 1983 (free on youtube). He is truly an impressive singer with a 4-5 octave range (can't recall off the top). Thanks again and good day you beautiful lady :) Larry the Electrician Maryland, USA

Thank you so much for reacting to Rob Halford, Rebecca! He is nicknamed the "Metal God" and has been around for over 40 years. You might want to listen, for a reaction or on your own time, to some of his "younger" live performances from the 70's and 80's to get a fuller scope of the talent of the man! One of the earliest ones would be Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver available here on Priest's Vevo. If you just type "Priest Deceiver BBC" in the search bar, it should show up first. Maybe then, Victim of Changes live from 82 or 83? Any other suggestions from the metal maniacs?

This is one of my favorite Priest songs. It's one of those songs that to me, sound better live then in the studio, but he doesn't sing it like he used to. All though this song is all ways changing to reflect where he is at in his life which makes since considering it's a song about reflecting on years past, I personally like the energy in his earlier versions better. Twenty or thirty years ago in his prime he had so much power and control in his voice when he hit those higher registers. He did so with an authority that few others could match. He never sounded shrill or strained in the slightest. Now that the man is in his late 60's he still has a better voice then most but nothing like he had in his younger years. Nothing taken away by this though. He is after all pushing 70 and still rocking heavy metal. Not to many guys his age can go out on stage and do a number with Baby Metal and not end up looking geriatric. But somehow he pulled it off.
