Always felt this was such an underrated cover. It's not just the vocals but the emotion that makes it so good. Cory was actually in rehab when they filmed this (that's why he wasn't in the last episodes of S4) and a few months later he died. It always makes me so emotional.

@@annemariecronen9096 Totally agree. He can't be that generous to Jenna/Tina lol. And also, Because You Loved Me has a lot of riffs and runs, and I don't think Lea would do it as good as Jenna. I mean Lea definitely can do riffs and runs, it's just that Jenna is way better in terms of agility, for me Jenna and Naya win for versatility and agility. But all three of them are great singers, definitely top tier singers in Glee along with Amber for sure.

I understand why they didnt. The other song was a bigger hit than this one, more instantly recognizable and worked better for that scene and the medley of songs sung at Nationals. In the end, this was not only a much better way to showcase her talent on this particular song (isolated, with the right production), but because the song means so much to her and is so powerful, it made something as seemingly bland as an audition feel striking, powerful, and unexpexted. After 4 seasons we were all used to her being an incredible singer, that much is a given. And "Rachel" was going to nail any song she chose to sing. So to somehow still blow us out of the water when the bar was so high was really something. I'm glad he held it back. He picked the right moment.

Rachel was every inch of a diva, rivaling Mercedes and Santana, and annoyed everyone at some point, but she had talent to back up that ego. Yes a lot of the Glee singers didn’t get enough time in the spotlight however Rachel constantly proved she was worthy of her time. The only singer I wished had more songs than Rachel is Rory his voice was like chocolate melting in your mouth delicious goodness.

For me this is the song that proves Lea is by far the most technically proficient singer in Glee. There are some great singers in the cast, but what she does here is beyond the abilities of most people. She is careful to keep it in her range too which gives her greater control over all the breath work. My favourite solo performance of hers. Felt more of Lea and less of Rachel too.
